Immigration controls

Are all immigration controls inherently racist?

I remember reading (in Socialist Worker) many years ago that they are racist "by definition". I remember thinking that that can't be true. Thinking about it more I was thus sure about that. I can't come up with any convincing arguments against it.

(Defining "racist" to include unfairness due to national or ethnic origin.)

That gives me a dilemma. As someone who believes that racism is inherently wrong, any position between Keir Starmer and Donald Trump (not to mention David Duke) can only be a matter of degree not quality.

Please help me to resolve this dilemma, if indeed it can be resolved.

I miss ken (2460 shipmate in the old ship). He would have sorted it out.

  • I don't follow that. Why are controls racist? They are if there is discrimination, so that for example, only white people are allowed in. But this isn't inevitable. If you let in a million people a year, without prioritising any group, how is it racist? Of course, you can get racist policies, e.g., white Australia policy.

This would need to be in Epiphanies, with a suitable OP.
