I'm in the process of changing my car. My old Mercedes A class has done more than 200,000 miles and is starting to get a little cranky. What to replace it with? Probably another Mercedes, although there is a little voice in my head telling me to go for an Audi TT roadster ...
As a family we share a 4x4 - vital for towing and also bad weather proof.
I think you should listen to that little voice. I believe the TT is on the same platform as the VW Golf, so it will be rigid and will have excellent suspension geometry - even more fun to drive than the Golf. There is little enough pleasure in driving these days - we should indulge ourselves while we can!

We recently hired a car for a few days and it was one I'd never heard of; a VW Taigo. Petrol, 5-speed manual, and, being a hire car, I reckon it was the 1 Litre base model.
I was really impressed. Decent sized boot that could take Mrs Vole's wheelchair, and driving down the A1 from Eyemouth to Newcastle I was getting around 60mpg!
