Not a word, but I detest the phrase “built in obsolescence”. My fridge hasn’t become obsolescent after eight years, nor my sofa after six and the strimmer only had to strim ten times a year and that barely lasted three years.
No obsolescence was built in. These machines were designed to do the same job as their predecessors decades, even a century before. They didn’t wear out, they simply weren’t built well enough and that is nothing to do with “obsolescence”.
Interesting thing with buses ... people put their card on the machine by the driver, it spews out a ticket and they tear it off ... and most folk then say, "Thank you".
Here in Cardiff most folk greet the driver ("Cheers, drive!" or thanks) as they alight.
