What did the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) people do this time?

They did it again.

In Houston.

Short an immigrant construction worker

Claimed he weaponized his vehicle

Witnesses dispute that.

People that were in the vehicle said driver was shot through the passenger window.

Mexico is threatening to take legal action.

As if ICE didn't have enough problems already.

Ban ICE.

  • This the norm - you have to expect it and more of it. There's nothing to stop them. If the next president fires them all, then the country will have a huge outlaw gang on the loose.
  • Meanwhile, it seems unlikely that the thugs - or their boss(es) - will ever be brought to justice.

The Trump administration will end. Then, we will see.

ICE actions like this always bring to my mind the first verse of Duncan and Brady
    Twinkle, twinkle, twinkle, little star
Up comes Brady in a 'lectric car
Got a mean look all 'round his eye
Gonna shoot somebody jus' to see them die

    I know Trump
And his supporters have a very mixed relationship with the law but is there not a law to punish the shooter?

Sure there is. The question is whether criminal charges will be brought, assuming the law was actually violated. (I think that’s probably a reasonable assumption, but we don’t have all the facts.)

They lie too. They are always justified regardless of evidence to the contrary.

Not, in my opinion, if the evidence, objectively viewed, can’t support conviction.

Who is to compile the evidence, let alone review it?

It seems to matter who is doing the investigation. Seems as if a federal agent shot someone, the current administration tends to ignore it

There is no question there should be a thorough and competent investigation. And like @Gramps49, I have next-to-no confidence that USDOJ would undertake such an investigation. Nor do I have any confidence that USDOJ would prosecute if the evidence warrant prosecution.

I don’t know about local law enforcement. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has said it is investigating; Sean Teare, the district attorney, is a Democrat. We’ll see how that goes.

But I still say that if the evidence will not support a conviction—I’m speaking generally here, not making any judgment about this case—then it’s an abuse for a prosecutor to pursue prosecution. That said, the more likely scenario is that the evidence could go either way, in which case letting a jury decide is proper.

Another ICE involved shooting in Biddleford Maine. Details still developing.
  • Gramps49Gramps49 Shipmate
Another shooting in Florida. apparently the man was running away from ICE and fled into traffic.

The Biddeford shooting happened because the agent thought the driver was a danger to public safety. Seems like the threat to public safety are the ICE agents.

The Director of ICE is now saying he is temporarily suspending non emergent (whatever that means) traffic stops.

Correction: the man in Florida was fleeing ICE but was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer--ie an eighteen-wheeler.

People are wondering why the ICE agents are not wearing body cameras.
