Dream a Little Dream

The night before last I dreamed that I was trying to remember what I’d dreamed about on a previous night.
  • I dreamed about the Lizzie Borden case last night. I dreamed I was taking a class or something, and it was outdoors though, and the professor or teacher was talking about the Borden stuff and I was wondering if she really was the one who did it, because in the dream my mother had watched a lot of documentaries that claimed that Borden wasn't really the one who did it, but the professor thought that she really was.

I made jokes that I was coming up with in the dream about how Lizzie Borden made a lot of cutting remarks and that she was a very sharp cookie and how she had a lot of edgy humor, and Miss Piggy was there and thought that the puns were really annoying.

In this particular case, I can point to several things that I had encountered during the day that could explain this as more of an ordinary dream rather than something deeper. A friend of mine is up north and visited the Lizzie Borden house and sent pictures; on my Amazon Echo Dot, I have a Disney application that you can have characters do greetings for randomly and Miss Piggy happened to be the one last night. In real life, Cubby, not my mother, was actually fascinated by an interested in things like Jack the Ripper and the Lizzie Borden case and saw documentaries and things about them.

On Thursday I went out with a friend to a local garden that has a cafe in the Victorian glass house, for lunch. I've never visited that garden before, but as we were going round I realised it looked very familiar. We stopped to look at the bee hives, and went through a big wrought iron gate to a walk way (we weren't really supposed to be there) where there was an old cart, and through the hedge at the back we could see some of the school kids from the school next door playing hockey.

I'd dreamed about all of this several months ago. This happens to me sometimes. The dream is always slightly odd enough for me to think it isn't a real thing, and then some time later I find myself in that place.

Two nights ago I dreamt about being outside in a lawn that looks like a winter lawn here, bare patches of ground and sparce runners of grass. There were also one inch squares on the ground. Most of them had a circle inside with a dot in the middle. If I pushed on the middle dot, the square and dirt under it would rise up about two inches. Someone asked me why I was doing it and I told them that there was gasoline under the ground and I was helping the fumes to escape.
  • Last night I actually had a significant dream. Mrs Sioni and I were on a coach trip with friends, so that was probably part of a cruise excursion. We got off and boarded another coach which was full of young American soldiers. They were lovely people, and one got up and delivered a message which to my dismay I can’t remember, but I had that warm feeling that the message had real meaning.
I took it to mean that it’s essential to trust the Lord, even when you don’t know what he’s doing and probably especially when you don’t know.
  • I had a batch of them last night. In one of them I was exploring the new (and in real life, sadly revised—if you Google it you will see) New College in Sarasota, the first college I went to in 1985. Not much about the real-life political machinations, but in the dream I went into Hamilton Center and the old nostalgic smell was gone, the floor and stuff were different, I was telling someone that the student mailboxes were in this other area but that had been covered into an area where an aerobics class was happening, and I was sad to see all the changes. I’ve had similar dreams before about my poor old New College. I also dreamed about car issues which involved a couple of jars which were attached to the inside of the car and I also either was, or had the powers and costume of, Superman, trying to deal with the car issue (finally found out that the jar-like objects were not essential to the car’s functioning, which I had thought was the case, but just to keep loose change and stuff in)…

Last week my French group had Dreams as the discussion topic, particularly the extent to which they may relate to real life.

The night before, I dreamt I found myself, with others, at the end of a day out, with no idea where we were or how to get home. This is so unrealistic as I would be armed with printed bus timetables, scribbled notes of train times and links on my phone etc. What was even more bizarre was that none of these even existed at all, yet it was in the present day.

A frequent dream I rather enjoy is that I am at some big event, and all my favourite people are there, friends, family, some former colleagues. Maybe a foretaste of heaven?
  • Last night I dreamed that a friend and I had a mutual acquaintance -- a woman who had an intense dislike for my friend, and transferred that dislike to me. (In real life I have no idea who the woman was.) She was in charge of a cafeteria line, and as I was going through the line I noticed that there was no food available. I mentioned that to my friend, and at that point I woke up.

I think I've been watching too much footage of climate change disasters, because last night I dreamed I was in one.
I was living in the last terraced house at the top of a hill. Beyond the houses was a moorland, and we were waiting for a storm to hit. When it did, it immediately completely flattened the sheds on the edge of the moorland, and then our house slid sideways onto the road. As it was otherwise intact, I thought we could carry on living there, even though it was in the middle of the road, but then it slid slowly and gracefully down the hill.
I then left the house to see how the bookshop where I work was faring - it was at the bottom of the hill. The rain was coming in sideways, but I got there and joined my colleagues in battening down the hatches. Our boss popped her head through the front door and told us we were doing a good job - and then she vanished again.
