I definitely find this sort of target word harder than one with unusual combos. The fact that my usual first guess gave me three in position narrowed the problem but not the possibilities enough. Did debate making an impossible guess to get info about more letters. Even after my third guess it took luck. Feel lucky it didnβt take more guesses.
Got so bad I was putting in random combos that fit with the three letters in place which I knew without using the eleven letters I had eliminated. When I finally considered what turned out to be the correct fourth letter it was easy since I could only think of two possible first letters. That is a familiar enough word but one I can only imagine coming out of a British characterβs mouth in a movie.
It's a common enough word to hear coming out of a British character's mouth in real life.
But uncommon enough for the average American anywhere other than screen or stage that even when I had all but the first letter correctly placed, it still took an embarrassingly long time for me to figure out that first letter.
and the oddity about the combo of wordle and quordle today.
Yes, that was very bizarre. I didn't want to mention it at the time for fear of spoilers, but for Wordle and Quordle to both use the same word on the same day was...just weird!
Yeah my mind insisted they wouldn't (I played one in the morning and one in the evening so though quordle was using the same word two days in a row) so I tried a slight variant instead of the right word
Walked away from it twice but then it occurred to me. I probably do better on the ones where it is hard to think of anything that works than those for which there are so many possibilities you risk running out of guesses.
Didn't help that I successfully spent the first three eliminating letters!
That's a tough call tactically: at what point do you start guessing two occurrences of one (or more) letters, as opposed to eliminating as many options as possible?

Well, in Karl's case, he didn't have any correct letters
More generally, "hard mode" doesn't give you the choice - it forces you to make guesses that are compatible with what you already know.
Otherwise, I think you usually do best to pick a completely different set of letters on round 2 (unless you got 4 or 5 right on round 1). It's easily modelable, of course.

When you've only got one vowel left you have to start assuming there's some doubling.
I needed one more guess for Quordle. I really thought my Guess #8 would be right for Lower Left....but I was wrong. So I decided to solve Lower Right instead.

Nothing too mysterious. My starter word had two hits (wrong locations) in the Upper Right. That was more hits than any of the other blocks, so it made sense to try to solve it first.
Unfortunately, I botched it badly. Still, by botching it, it made solving Upper Left easy. As I said, I thought Lower Left would be easy too, but I guessed wrong. I then had the choice: One guess left and, since I was ticked at Lower Left, I decided to solve Lower Right. Just to prove that, if I had one more guess, I would have had all of them.
My second guess was very lucky. With four correct letters locked in place on the second guess I wasnβt able to think of any alternative to the correct answer.
For those who like to try something different, I just discovered Quardle (not Quordle). It's like a crossword of four words, with two of them backwards. Took me a little bit of time to get used to how it works, but I solved it, and it was more straightforward than it initially seemed! Though the copy paste thing doesn't seem to show the symbols here as it does on FB, so is a bit meaningless.
