Five today. Three, four and five were all possible, but on reflection five was more likely. A lot depends on how I hear letter combinations in my head.
Currently after just over 100 games, my score by this method is 4.14.
I'm at 3.9 by this metric.
I'm never sure whilst playing whether what I'm trying to do is maximize my chances of a low score, or minimize my chances of a bad score. They're not quite the same...

I could easily average 2 for my guesses if my success rate was around 3%. Equally I could get a success rate of 100% but average 5 and a bit (by using 3 words at the beginning with 15 different letters as I do in Quordle).

Simple take one's mean number of guesses and divide it by one's success rate (as a decimal; I.e. 50% is 0.5, 95% is 0.95 etc.).
This gives a score reflecting number of guess and success rate at what I think is fair proportions.
Being under 4 would be the aim.
