@Piglet, I would call it appropriate language myself :naughty:
  • I thought the florist scams were a thing of the past. Not so. We needed to send flowers to commemorate the death of our friends' son a year ago. We placed an online order in plenty of time last week for delivery today, and received an email a few hours ago saying they would be delivered tomorrow. Anxious phone calls, angry phone calls, passed to cancellation department, no call back, then an email that quoted our order number while asking for our order number. The killer was that the email came from LunaAI at the 'company'. All the calls to different departments were answered in the same voice. We were scammed by AI! (Luna AI is real - you can buy it for your own business). My wife called a friendly local human florist who took care of everything quickly and calmly.
  • Glad you picked up on the scam before the anniversary had passed. I am sure your flowers were appreciated by the recipient. Glad you were able to get a satisfactory resolution @Stercus Tauri .

@Spike, that is just too many things happening at once, a right royal pain

This. So sorry you're having such a grim time @Spike .

Oh Spike, you're kidding - well, no, obviously you're not, but ... BOLLOCKS!!!

    Hope you get well soon!

I was up most of last night so took the day off today. I feel OK if I’m lying down or sitting still, but still feel very queasy when moving around

Poor you - that really sounds nasty. Take care!

Oh @spike what a crap year you are having. I hope you get well very soon.

TICTH the patch of greasy road at the railway station entrance that means my left femur is being pinned or replaced tomorrow, depending on what they find once they slice into it.

    I'm not a happy bunny.
  • I’m so sorry!
  • BroJamesBroJames Purgatory Host
I’m sorry to hear that @KarlLB. Mine was damaged coming off my bike at the foot of our drive in a patch of miss and leaves. It was pinned just over twelve years ago. Nothing to show for it now except a faded 6” scar at my left hip.

Thanks both. Added stress is my needle phobia which is taking up some of my Cope resources. One thing for a doctor to say you need an op and a few weeks later your date comes through; another to find yourself due in theatre the next day.

That and using a bedpan when you're flat on your back and can't move.

Funny the things that you think of in these situations isn't it?
  • I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you are sorted soon.

That sounds horrible - thinking of you. On the plus side, you will get lots of lovely morphine for a while after the surgery which should take the edge of the anxiety.
  • Ooh @KarlLB wishing you well for a successful operation and recovery!
  • Yes indeed.
  • Oh hell, Karl, that's no fun! Hope they get you sorted ASAP!

Sorry to hear that @KarlLB . Doubly so because you're not much older than me and seem to have Had A Fall. :anguished:

Thanks to all for your thoughts.

Well, all has apparently gone well. I have a bionic hip, movement and a lot less pain.

  • Pickle Beer. I like pickles and beer, but whoever thought of putting pickle juice in beer and bottling it for sale does not have my vote. I was with friends who bought a six-pack, and although I no longer drink for health reasons, I decided to have a wee taste out of curiosity. The first slip, and my reaction, was that it was awful. My second sip, and my response was that this was still really bad. I have a very eclectic taste and like almost all food, but nope, pickle beer is something I can enjoy avoiding. My friends, by the way, like drinking it with burgers. Bless their hearts.
  • If it's that awful, their hearts might indeed need a good dose of blessing!
  • What sort of pickle is it made from?

I am not sure Bishops Finger. I just checked online, and one brand says sour pickle beer.

    Hmm. Still sounds nauseating...

Pickle, to me, here in the UK, often means something like the well-known Branston Pickle:

Branston Pickle is made from a variety of diced vegetables, including swede, carrots, onions and cauliflower, pickled in a sauce made from vinegar, tomato, apple and spices.

It is, I think, classed as a sweet pickle, and goes very well with CHEESE.

Not hellish at all in itself, but O! if put into BEER, it would Truly Be Outrage!

As Graven Image is in the US, I'm imagining something related to dill pickles - the horrid little green pickles that you have to ask burger purveyors to "hold" - and why they would have anything to do with beer is a complete mystery to me! :flushed:

Yes, I wondered if perhaps it was *dill pickles* that were being used (or misused):

I'm glad you reject them as I can have extra. Only thing in a Big Mac that tastes of anything
  • Me as well big pickle fan here.

You'd both be most welcome to my share! 😃
  • The Handmaid's Tale... Why does anyone need/want this stuff? The film crew have built a mass gallows in the centre of the town near here, almost at the front door of the Presbyterian church, and the traffic was stopped all around while they were busy hanging people today. I suppose that's what they were doing - I didn't stay to watch. It is hideous, but the church makes good money for the use of the facilities.

Is it too dark humoured to suggest that people need/want this stuff so they're prepared for the next few years in the US?

I know I'm referencing old posts, but...

So sorry Spike. I hope February brings a turn of fortunes. I greatly appreciated my driving instructor; you do good work.

All the best for the recovery, Karl.

While not at the same level as Graven Image's dinner invitees, companies/businesses who don't respond to emails can be annoying. I get you are busy, but if you have an email address and welcome contact as per text on a website, a fortnight is a long time for no response. I'd happily accept "We are snowed under...give us another week (or more)". I always tried to respond to every email I got by the end of the day, even if it was to say it will take me 2 weeks! But I am rather pedantic. I guess I should call.

. Last December, I mailed in my renewal registration for my mobile home, which is required once a year. The final due date for payment is today, Jan 31st. There is a penalty after that. I had placed my payment envelope with a stamp in my mailbox for the mailman to pick up in the middle of December. A bizarre thing happened last evening at about 8 PM: a car pulled up in front of my home, and a man jumped out, hurried up the steps, and stuck something in my door handle. He then hurried back to the car before I could get to the door and retrieve it. It was my stamped envelope with the check I had mailed with my payment, still sealed. I was able to pay online today and beat the deadline. The question is, who was the man, and where has the check been all this time? I am sure it was not one of my senior neighbors as I did not recognize the car, and the man appeared young and able to move quickly. Not so much hellish I guess, as kind of scary. Makes me feel ill at ease.

    Crikey

Is there a factor or Residents' Association you could raise it with? It does seem a bit bizarre, and nobody would blame you for feeling a bit ill-at-ease.
