I had sushi at an all you can eat sushi place we used to go to. Not the best sushi (not awful, but I've found better all you can eat sushi places at about the same price), but it's the one we went to. Also got a piece (1 piece, not an entire cake) of red velvet cake, which was his favorite, and sugar-free butter pecan ice cream he liked.
Today I'm being taken out to lunch in a small country town to the north of Christchurch. It's even better when I can stretch my birthday over a few days.
The first year anniversary of my partner Ula's death on 31 May last year. We were together 30 years and I will always be grateful for that. And for the kindness and support I've had in this terrible year from Shipmates here. God bless all of you.

Yesterday was Cheery son's birthday. I think everyone's birthday is special and where possible should be celebrated. We had a simple celebration, just the afternoon spent with girlfriend, cake and Indian takeout for dinner.
We have a digital photo frame in our family room and son's girlfriend loved looking at the photos of him when he was younger. One photo came up that nearly undid me, even though there were several of him in hospital, holidays at the coast courtesy of cancer charity and messy aspects of our life. The one that got me was one taken with a friend who is no longer here. I am glad I had my head in the dishwasher when we were speaking about the photo and her. A prayer today for the parents and kids we've met on the journey and much gratitude for yesterday's birthday.
@Cheery Gardener, it sounds like you had a perfect celebration, even with the heartache that comes from remembering a friend no longer with you. That kind of pain reminds us of how much we love each other.
It's Mrs RR's 70 + x birthday tomorrow. Hurrah! What with my chronic endocarditis and her appendix (etc) It's been a difficult year, so I aim to push the boat out with a trip to see the Ospreys on Rutland Water. Weather looks OK, PTL. We stay in a posh hotel with good food and (for Mrs RR) an inclusive massage.
Must remember to take all (and I mean all) my medication with me.
Sounds a lovely way to celebrate @RockyRoger . I didn't know their were ospreys at Rutland Water. I need to go and have a look as it isn't that far from me.
How lovely, RR. I’ve been to see the sunken church and walked across the dam but I’ve not been to the nature reserve side - I must organise a trip with Mr Heavenly.
That looks great @RockyRoger . I’ll suggest it to my husband for a trip out.
Still hot here and still no rain. Shopping trip was successful and I now have two smart dresses for events. I could have done without the train back bring 30 minutes late though.
Today would have been my friend, who died in March, 68th birthday. The family are carrying on with the usual birthday party on Sunday, but without him there it won't be the same.

How did that happen?
I bought myself a couple of mini roses yesterday to celebrate and a friend is taking me to lunch tomorrow.
🎵🎶 Happy Birthday toooooo yooooouuuu! 🎵🎶

It does get easier, but slowly. Sending you a big virtual hug. ❤️
