I would happily take your rain as well as my own! It's raining here, AT LAST, but not heavily.
Last night was so warm and muggy that I put two ice packs (the sort you get for keeping food cold) in my bed so that it would be properly cold when I got in. It wasn't enough. I kept waking up too hot and moving the ice packs to a different spot to try to maximise the chill., and it still wasn't enough!
On second pair of trousers as the first got soaked to the knee just nipping to the corner shop. As @Piglet says, stopped now but I wouldn't bet on it staying that way.
However, quite happy to settle down and watch people skelping golf balls round the shaws of north Antrim.
Rainy here in Arkland the Mugsome, with much humidity and general dampness. My Expotition to Tess Coe (unusual for a Saturday, but there were Essentials to be bought) was successful, and, thanks be to Great Lord Cthulhu, I managed to miss the heavy (but welcome) showers which are occurring from time to time...even as I write, one is pouring down.
Having just bought vast quantities of Expensive Paint, I now implore Great Lord Cthulhu (or anygod else who is listening) to abate the Rain, and to give me a chance to apply the aforesaid Paint next week.
Lunch is CHICKEN in a Mushroom Sauce, with New Potatoes, and some Baby Leaf Salad. Some of the Salad (one of Tess Coe's ready-to-eat offerings) simply has to be eaten today, as the Bag will not fit in the fridge, and has to be squashed in order to get the door to shut.
I hope Captain Pyjamas' Poorly Toe is soon better. A nasty experience, even with the Fun of being ferried about in wheelchairs...
I hope Captain Pyjamas is feeling more chipper this morning and that it doesn't disrupt the holidays too much.
The new bookshop was heaving, and long may it remain so.
The rain was indeed just limbering up, and while I was in the talon salon getting my nails done, it came down in stair-rods, and was literally stotting off the ground. Luckily by the time I left, it had eased off a bit, but not nearly enough for me to want to brave going down to Tessie's, so supper had to be what was in the fridge (i.e. salads, Quiche Lorraine and some cooked ham).
I shall however have to go to an Emporium of some sort tomorrow, as I'm supposed to be going to my sister's with some of the clan for a "bring-some-nibbles" type of lunch, and I have no nibbles.
I also have no WINE ...
A brief stop at the Co-op on the way may have to suffice.
Poor Captain Pyjamas, and what a stressful experience @la vie en rouge
I hope he’s much better today. @Nenya I agree and sympathise with your summer holiday nostalgia. My girls and I so enjoyed the relaxed mornings and little projects we kept busy with for those precious weeks. Good memories.
We will have youngest grandson for 2 days every week during the summer while daughter Erin and her husband work. Hoping for dry sunny days!
We managed to be inside when it rained in Hereford today. We managed to get most of what we wanted including a pair of earrings i bought for Darllenwr to give me for my birthday.
Quite a lot of rain this morning, though before it started I managed to do some outdoor chores, then did indoor chores.
This evening I attended a lovely choral concert of Renaissance music in a church. Unusually the choir sang from the west end. I have attended services in that church, mostly the grandchildren’s nativity and leavers’ services, with all chairs facing north, almost in a semicircle, or ‘ proper’ services up in the large chancel.

Yes. It doesn't seem that long ago, but both Nenlets are in their 30s so I suppose it was. I hope you enjoy time with your grandson.
I saw my friend for coffee and catch up this morning and this afternoon Mr Nen and I went to a local village fete where a very enjoyable time was had by all - three books purchased at the secondhand book stall, a cream tea consumed and a local choir enjoyed. Mr Nen also made inquiries about joining their bell ringers as an occasional guest: he hasn't rung bells for over 40 years but would like to have another go.
Then home, a spot of gardening (too hot and hay fever-y for me to do too much) and then stir fry for tea, washed down with half a bottle of red.
Most of the patio rubbish, including a rotten picnic table and benches, has been deposited in the skip. Tomorrow we can finish clearing the patio and give it a good clean. I am looking forward to drinking my morning coffee next week on our new spruced up patio.
Squirrels have bitten a hole in the bird food bin again, I am going to have to buy a metal one and tie down the lid. I bought a new plastic one last year with a fitted lid as they were removing the lid from the previous one.
Mr Heavenly has loaded the old carpet from the new spare room into the skip, put another coat of paint on the walls and cleaned the window and fitted cupboard for painting.
A dull and likely damp day in prospect. But that's ok - last day of The Open from Portrush. McIlroy 5 strokes off the lead, so unlikely to win (though you never know).
I had to look that up. Sounds delicious. And tarragon. First had that in Georgia (the country) in a soft drink. Delicious.
Actually fresh tarragon is the thing I don't have. Like all classic recipes there are very many variations. Mine will have sole, dry vermouth, double cream, grapes. Two minds about mushrooms.
Drizzle here most of the morning. We have had an energetic day finishing the clearing of the patio and the covered area behind the back door and putting rubbish into the skip, then weeding, sweeping and cleaning. It is lovely to have a neat area again and to be able to use the new bistro set of table and chairs. We just need to wait for the rain to clear…
Lunch was chicken livers with mushrooms, onions and a fried egg. Mr Heavenly is now putting another coat of paint on in the spare room.
Mr Sarasa is doing the gloss in the kitchen while listening to music, I'm steering well clear. Dinner tonight will be bottom of the fridge risotto with vegan sausages and peas. We do have white wine, but we want to drink that so Martini will be added to dish instead.
This morning I went to the farewell service of the rector of our parish church. The church is closed for renovation so it was in the rather beautiful Methodist church. Not my style of service at all, I spent most of the time mentally pulling apart the concepts in the worship songs. The sermon was good though, and the rector's children were so well behaved while someone went on for about ten minutes about how they'd all be missed. At least I assume that's what she was saying. I couldn't get any of it which might have been my poor hearing, but from the body language of people around me I think quite a few others were struggling.
We had some rain in the night, and this morning, but it's hot and sunny again now so I'm not sure how much good it's done.
I'm concocting a Roast Dinner Lite - I wasn't going to roast today as we're out quite a lot this week and usually the roast is partly to give us meat for a couple more days, which we don't need this week. However, I gazed upon the chicken breasts which I was going to convert to chick frick and decided I wasn't in the mood for chick frick so I threw them in the slow cooker and am roasting some vegetables to go with them. There won't be pigs in blankets but I think we'll cope. We Have Wine.
We went to an excellent Choral Eucharist at Newport Cathedral this morning, and an equally excellent (in a totally different way!) humorous improvised Whodunnit called "Locomotive for Murder". Well worth seeing if you're going to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Rain all morning, at times heavy.
I didn’t go out until late afternoon by which time it was dry. Choir practice then Evensong. Choir outnumbered the congregation. Disappointing, as there had been no morning service in the village. We had two extra singers who were really welcome as some several of our usual singers were unavailable. Unlike some of our extras, these two really fitted in, both in terms of blending voices and knowing what they were doing. They may come again.
Lunch was a very delicious rib of beef cooked on my Dad's barbecue. Apparently there is pork pie for later. I haven't had pork pie for ages.
Mmm. Pork pie! I don't often get it, even though I live not far from Melton Mowbray, because Mrs Rogue is celiac and the gluten-free ones are not good.
Our local Co-Op sometimes has Melton Mowbray Pork Pies, but they seem a bit tasteless to me. Perhaps I should see what Tess Coe has to offer - we have a Marks n'Sparks Food Hall in Our Town, but parking is very difficult, or I'd try that emporium.
Pilates has been accomplished, a day earlier than usual, as Herself's son has a school-leaving do tomorrow. Pain is being assuaged by strong BEER (no Ardent Spirits, though), and LAMB CHOPS will shortly be pan-fried.
Heavy Rain overnight and this morning has abated for a while, and Arkland the Awash basks in the glow of the Big Yellow Face, at least for now. Alas! a leak in the deckhead - which I thought I'd fixed by applying a special Paint - has re-opened, though half-an-inch of water in a bucket, after six hours of Rain, is hardly a major problem.
Pilates this morning was good, in that I actually managed to do all the exercises though my balance when not wearing shoes is a bit iffy. I'm having a lazy and quiet afternoon as my husband has gone out with a friend to a National Trust garden for the afternoon. It'll be a good test of our new electric car. He is fretting slightly about the range.
Not as wet today as I thought it might be, though we've had the odd shower. The rain seems to be tracking a bit to the east of us.
We have Pilates later this afternoon as well, which I expect will be harder work than usual as we've missed two weeks (one because the teacher was away, one because we were). I can't say I ever enjoy it but I'm sure it does me good.
After that we're heading out to meet up with some friends from university days who are taking a holiday in their camper van fairly nearby. There will be plenty to catch up on as we've had Nenlet2's wedding recently - I have a small album of printed-out photos which I'm currently carrying everywhere. Some people I spoke to at church yesterday showed No Interest Whatsoever - one very deliberately and almost immediately changed the subject - but a few were very interested indeed and were thrilled to see the photos, which somewhat healed my hurting heart.
I had an odd experience this morning, when approaching the Pilates studio. It's up a few steps, requiring concentration on my part, so I don't look at the building until I'm at the top, at which point I'm facing the windows.
Imagine my alarm, when I looked up, and saw no reflection in the glass. Was I dead ? Would I still be disabled in Heaven? How do I get in touch with the Complaints department?
No, I realised that the window I was facing was open, and I was looking into an empty room...
When we stayed in Melton Mowbray recently, several of the pubs had a pork pie of the day, with a variety of ingredients or toppings.
Usual day of emails and admin, and reviewing a piece of work. I also have an achy left side from cleaning the patio yesterday.
Tea will be venison steaks, served with bubble and squeak (the remains of Saturday’s cheesy potato, mutton and veg pie).

Memo to self - check out M & S for Pork Pies when out and about shopping tomorrow (Rain permitting).
I'm glad you're neither dead nor a vampire @Bishops Finger.
Enjoy your night out with friends @nenya.
Husband is back home and snoozing on the bed. We both had bad nights sleep last night, but I know an afternoon nap will mean I won't sleep properly tonight either.
Tea tonight is baked potato with salad and vegan cheese.

Oh, Nenya - I do understand. When my stepdaughter met the woman to whom she has now been married for 11 years, I didn’t really feel I could mention them in church circles, although I just felt bad either way. By the time they married we had moved house and were in a more accepting church environment. Nowadays, and with them having 2 children, it just *is*.
I was a bit AWOL from the Ship yesterday; after church I went to my sister's where a fair chunk of the clan was gathered; no reason really, just that I hadn't seen any of them for a wee while, and still hadn't given Deia her birthday present (a Peppa Pig umbrella, which she seemed to like). We spent a good bit of the afternoon sitting out in the garden, where it was quite warm, and a bit muggy.
It's not been too bad here today, although I haven't been out; I woke up with enough of a headache (possibly brought on by a combination of the muggy weather and the WINE) that I didn't want to be upright and thought, three of the six people for whom I type aren't in today, so with luck I won't have been missed.
I'm feeling a good bit better now, so business as usual tomorrow.
Attended a memorial service for a Friend, whose burial service was earlier this afternoon. A full Meeting house of F/friends , family and colleagues of M. A beautiful and heartfelt occasion. I accompanied my next door neighbour , who had done voluntary work with M, and who had never been to a Quaker Meeting before.

Thank you; I'm glad you find yourselves in a more accepting church environment now. We have our small group meeting this evening so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. Our friends yesterday evening were people we were at university, and in the Christian Union, with and were very interested and pleased for us.
Sounds like some nice family time @Piglet . How old is Deia? I don't know whether the GrandNenling has been introduced to the delights of Peppa Pig.
I have another load of washing on the go and am seeing my usual Tuesday lunchtime friends today. It's overcast and muggy here this morning.
ETA - Pilates was really good (in that I was sure it was Doing Me Good) with lots of work on balance and posture which are the bits I feel I particularly need and which don't involve too much grovelling about on the floor which are the bits I really dislike.
Muggy and Showery in Arkland the Humid again today, but there are gleams of Sun Shine from time to time. A partially-successful morning, inasmuch as the Expotition to Tess Coe resulted in Meat, Fish, BEER, and MARMITE (along with some over-the-counter meds), but a delivery to the Arkland Office of a very large parcel from eBay caused some consternation (to me) and amusement (to the Staff). See TICTH for boring details.
Lunch is CHICKEN in a white wine sauce, with rice and mushrooms.
@Nenya - I'm guessing that your Pilates sessions don't involve use of the *Reformer* (Professor Pilates' demonic combination of a hospital bed and the Rack as used by the proper Spanish Inquisition). My one-to-one sessions are mostly on the Reformer, but sometimes lying down on my side, whilst following what Herself is doing on the floor. IYSWIM.
My feeling is - and she confirms - that the sessions, although in a way a simple *holding operation*, are successful in keeping me reasonably mobile, and in preventing me from being confined more-or-less all the time to a wheelchair. £££ well spent, IMHO, and the cost is not exactly astronomical.

No, there's nothing like that in our sessions but there is a variety of Equipment, including squashy balls (for squishing under one foot while rocking on the other), wide stretchy bands (for looping round the foot and stretching in various directions) and things that I believe are called "waffles" - black solid half-moon-shaped rubber things for balancing and rocking on.
Our usual lunchtime venue was closed "Due to a family emergency" so we ended up in a local pub for lunch where the food was (1) not so nice (2) more expensive (3) very salty. The upside was we could sit and catch up for longer (our Usual Place closes at 2) so we did just that, whilst downing a jug of cold water to counteract the thirstiness brought on by the salt.
While we were in there it tipped down with some welcome rain but by the time we'd finished the rain had obligingly stopped so I got home in the dry. It's as overcast and muggy here now as it was first thing.
My Pilates sessions include the use of the Squashy Ball (I have one here at home), which feels very comfy when inserted under my lower back, and also the Stretchy Bands (I have one here at home) for helping me to hug my knees whilst lying on my back...
I don't think I've come across Waffles, though.
O! what Fun people would have, larfing at the Contortions, and listening to all the Ouches and Oofs which I emit...
Quite a crowded day for me. Schlepped 3 sacks of garden rubbish, put out brown bin, brought in green. Took delivery of groceries and (mostly) put them away. Bussed across town and called on favourite butcher who does things like haggis and schnitzel, had a light lunch, went to bookshop and bought work of fiction by the Reverend Coles, Mrs Dalloway by V Woolf, and an Italian cookbook by Sophie Grigson - to add to a number of others by the Grigsons mère et filler. Then to the dentist to have the teeth scrubbed.
Just remains to bake steak pie, also from butcher, drink red wine, and retire to the sleep of the just.
I had a microsleep on the bus today, just between two stops. When I woke up I was convinced I was on a Lisbon tram, it took a few moments to realise that I was in fact in Cardiff.
(Not quite as daft as it sounds, as I have lived in Lisbon).
I fell asleep while watching the Tour de France, it seems to be becoming a habit.
A lazy day, though I went round the shops of our town this morning searching in vain for organic feed for my camellia and the tooth floss my husband likes. I did get the ingredients for tea, a stir fry, which my husband is cooking at the moment.
... Sounds like some nice family time @Piglet . How old is Deia? I don't know whether the GrandNenling has been introduced to the delights of Peppa Pig ...
She turned 2 in June (and is, of course, utterly adorable ). I should think the Grand-Nenling ought to be introduced to Peppa forthwith - and Piglet, Pooh and their friends as well!
Back to work today, and quite busy; everybody was in except B (who's on holiday), so no rest for the wicked ...
It was noticeably (and pleasantly) cooler as I was coming home; 18°, but with a wee breeze that seemed to cut nicely through any lingering mugginess, for which relief much thanks!
I had a pootle over to Tessie's at lunchtime, having done no shopping at the weekend, and supper was another of their ready-to-reconstruct chicken Caesar salads, which I made more bourgeois by the addition of a sliced avogadro, and very nice it was too.
