I think you'd be disappointed @Huia, Mother's Day and birthday are the main days for Cheery husband on domestic duties, I think you'd be disappointed if I lent him out!!
Today is New Year's Day for my daughter's in-laws. One of the lovely things about their marriage is that in my son-in-law's culture, marriage is not just a joining of two people, but a joining of two families, and so I have been messaging various members of what is now my extended family "Sal Mubarak."
My Old Dad would have been 113 today (!), but he died back in 1986. I sometimes wonder what he would have made of the bizarre alternative universe in which we now exist...
Today is also the anniversary of the dreadful Lewisham/St John's rail disaster in South London, in 1957:
I was 6 at the time, but my family knew a number of the railway staff involved, and the father of one of my school friends was converted to Christianity as a result of not being in the part of the steam train where the majority of casualties occurred. Even at that tender age, I thought it odd of God to spare him (Mr C) when so many others were killed or injured - not to mention the distress caused to their families...
Thanks, everyone. It was a great day. Three friends who didn't know each other happened to stop by for a quick hello and happy birthday, within 20 minutes of each other, so I invited them to stay and have a little tea party.
It's the North East Man's birthday today, too. We got engaged on his 24th birthday, but your Giraffe is well ahead of the 24 year old NE Man, @Cathscats!

Happy birthday in Heaven, my love.
Meanwhile, my younger child is 25 today. Where do the years go?
