Sixteen years ago, when our daughter was in third grade, she did the Girls on the Run program. Each “season” of Girls on the Run ends with a 5K, for which the participating girls each asks a 16-or-over “buddy” to run with them. Our daughter asked her 20-year-old cousin to run the 5K with her. (And our daughter went on to run competitively in high school and college, and she’s now done four marathons, including Boston and Chicago. She’s running the Sydney Marathon in August of ‘26.)
Now, that cousin has her own third-grade daughter who’s been doing Girls on the Run, and she asked our daughter (who’ll turn 25 this week) to run with her. It really was a fun, full-circle moment. And it was great to see 1,000+ young girls running, plus their buddies and assorted others who just wanted to run and support the program.
Such fun. Good to see it carry through the generations.

Bit of an update on health status. Met with surgeon today. She says liver enzymes are up probably the result of the gallstone infection. She wants to see if they will go down over the next month before she is ready to commit to surgery. Steady as she goes.

I always remember this, but get tripped up on the proper nouns that have other non-proper uses that I forget about. "Morocco," for instance, turns up in the Spelling Bee because of "morocco leather."
I need a new heating and cooling system. Wow, that is going to break the bank, but I have no choice.
Hope you check out one of the heating/cooling exchange systems. Most utilities offer significant rebates. Helps to ease the cost and reduces overall usage as well.

It has warmed up today for the first time in ten days. My heater should be up and running by this afternoon. Local Utility is not giving rebates at this time. The cut-off was in September. Sigh.
Going in tomorrow for a back radiofrequency nerve ablation, where they will use radio waves to kill off some nerve endings along the L3, L4, and L5 spine. This is supposed to give me up to two years pain relief in the back. Pretty serious stuff. Without insurance it would be $17000 total. Insurance is going to cover it. Going under around 7 am. Day surgery. Get this done now, and then possible gallbladder removal in February.

That room stays a little cooler than the rest of the house so wanted to put a programmable thermostat in it. Ever since I all but electrocuted myself when I was 21 (grabbed a 10,000v line after a windstorm), I have avoided wiring anything above 120v. The directions for the replacement thermostat was simple enough for a fifth grader to complete. So, I put on my big boy pants and got `er done. No shock, no sparks, circuit breaker held. I think I am in the clear.
Ya know, we North Americans are such wimps, considering the rest of the world runs on 240v anyway.

By the time Europe electrified they chose Telsa's 240v AC system.
Americans, though, stayed at 120v because millions of homes were already wired at 120. It would have been too costly to convert to the higher voltage.
Back visiting our family in NY after crossing the border by train at Niagara Falls. I have to travel on a visa and was somewhat nervous, given all that has happened this year. They could not have been more friendly and seemed glad to see us, so I recklessly asked about the huge "visa integrity fee" that made a splash in the news a few months ago. The border guard had never heard of it! So here we are - back in a familiar town by the Hudson after arriving in snowstorm, across the river from where we were married 53 years and two days ago.
