I used to know a comic song about plucking pheasants, but TIACW.
😇
My Beloved Goddaughter recently started sous-cheffing in an upmarket restaurant, and has learned to pluck pheasants. As a fond Godmother ever anxious to expand her education, I have taught her that ditty.
We have had an excellent day! My husband and my cousin's husband always got along well when they met at family occasions, but my husband's working hours pre-retirement meant he had a very restricted social life. Despite having known each other for almost thirty years, they had never met up independently of wider family. Since the NE Man retired he and cousin's husband have had a monthly dinner-and-snooker evening, and they'd arranged a family get together today - ten pin bowling, followed by dinner in a Turkish restaurant. It was great fun! And all the better because all I had to do was participate - nothing for me to organise or even think about at all!
A cool, grey day in West Lothian. Church has been attended, although bits of it were missed. I discovered on arrival that I was supposed to be on coffee duty along with J, who wasn't there. I scurried up to the kitchen to discover a decided lack of milk, so beetled off to the corner shop to get some (thereby missing the first hymn). Luckily another lady in the congregation offered to help out, but as the last hymn was Unto us a boy is born (my favourite carol, and which had been included at my instigation), I was buggered if I was going to slip out during it to get the coffee pots going! I left during Communion and just made it back for the last two verses.
I am a brainless piglet; if I'd realised, I'd probably have asked someone to do a swap.
As per usual on a Sunday afternoon, laundry and snoozage.
Quiet day here. Bread, cheese and charcuterie for lunch, including baked Camembert with plum sauce, and Mr Heavenly has just dropped Master Heavenly the Younger and girlfriend in town so they can go ice skating. I am lazing around before we go in to church early as Mr Heavenly is on set up duty.
We had sociable day yesterday. It started with present for my husband on his birthday. Then my brother and family turned up for lunch. Then while brother and sister in law had a quiet afternoon (they'd spent Christmas with a large number of her family in the Peak District), we took our nephew to a friends house to play board games with her family. Then brother and sister-in-law joined us all for a ceilidh. Great fun was had by all. Church was skipped this morning, in stead we all went for a mooch round a couple of local antiques shops before they headed home.
Cold, grey, and still windy in Arkland the Desolate - definitely a day for Staying In By The Fire, though I'll need to make a visit to Tess Coe tomorrow. Hopefully, the Twixtmas traffic will be light...
Meanwhile, my Spy tells me that they had a good turnout at Our Place (see Eccles for report re music), and that most people stayed on for the Bring-and-Share buffet lunch which has become a regular event after the Parish Mass on the last Sunday of the year.
FISH CAKES n'CHIPS for me - must check the Dragon to see if they're ready!

Top work, that Godmother!
I'm regularly supplying my Godson with smutty magazines.
Still a bitter wind here; we went to church this morning and have holed up at home for the rest of the day. I have a casserole in the slow cooker to use up the remaining turkey which we'll wash down with a glass or three of wine.
We had Boxing Day and the day after with Nenlet1, son-in-law and the GrandNenling who, as usual, was on top form and the absolute highlight to my Christmas .
I'm still being lazy, although laundry has been accomplished, and I've cleared the top of the coffee table of all but a couple of books and magazines, to make space for some candles (I got a rather nice scented candle from my nephew and his family for Christmas).
Fish cakes and greens for supper; I reckon I'll have to make an Expotition to Tessie's tomorrow to top up supplies.
After church a friend and I went out for lunch. She has been on her own over Christmas for the first time but has managed to enjoy good food and tv. We both had roast lamb, with all the trimmings and for dessert, lemon meringue tart with raspberry sorbet. Good meal and excellent service. I think this will become a regular event, though she is off to Spain for the rest of the winter, so it will have to wait until April.

Got up this morning, logged on to work from home and then realised that I'd booked today as holiday and I don't actually return to work until tomorrow.

A nice surprise!
Our little family left at 8:30 this morning to return to Germany. Very mixed feelings. Sad that they're gone, but it's also good to get some peace and quiet back in the home.
We will see them all again very soon as we travel to Mallorca in a week's time for a holiday with them, plus several German friends.
After church, we had a quick trip to Devon to celebrate our grandson's 8th birthday. Quite a big family gathering inat our d-i-l's parents' farm: food in the barn and a big warming bonfire outside. Stayed overnight in Exeter, came home very quickly.
A very pleasant way to spend a (short) weekend.
Another grey day in Arkland the Dull, but still not too cold for the time of year. I was up early (for me) and off to Tess Coe before the Twixtmas rush. Happily, it wasn't too busy, though some people appeared to be stocking up for a prolonged siege. I found all I wanted, and the Nice Lady on the self-service Engines of Beelzebub helped me to get through in double-quick time.
I was amused to note that there were two large trollies outside the door, full of FREE bags of Sprouts. I guess someone over-ordered, or perhaps the fickle Public has at last realised that Sprouts come from Satan's handkerchief...
Lunch is CHICKEN PIE, possibly with ROAST POTATOES and GRAVY, once I can be bothered to rise from my Chair, and raid the fridge.
My Neighbours are conspicuous by their absence today, though their Cars are visible - there is a certain amount of Seasonal Lurgy about, alas. It looks as though Arkland will be quiet over the New Year, as the Office and the Borders will once again be closed on the Eve and the Day. This does at least mean that we won't be invaded by drunken 'revellers' from Outside, and can revel drunkenly all by ourselves.
I had a lunch so dismal - lettuce, raw pepper and an indifferent hummus - that I awarded myself a mince pie to compensate.
The rummaging (that uncovered the 2000 champers) did not, however, discover what I was looking for, which is a particular style of tasting glass for white wine. So I've ordered a box from a catering supplier. I had an amble through the kitchenware and appliances, but managed to restrain myself to just a Parmesan grater.

No, not that sort, this sort!

I believe the correct literary term for that genre is steam porn.
Indeed . He passes them on to his grandfather when he's finished them.

It's the first time I've seen them being offered post-Sproutmas for free, though.

Usually they have to sell them for 1p/kg, just so they register on their systems.
