  • So sorry, prayers that all will be well.
  • So sorry, @Merry Vole . I hope that the oncologist can give some good news.
  • So sorry to hear this 🕯

Call from the hospital yesterday. Seeing the consultant today. Presumably she has the results of the biopsy and it has found Something.

As it happens, Mr F has a dental appointment at the same hospital for some major work later in the afternoon. So that's our day sorted.

It is indeed breast cancer - of a commonplace sort, apparently. I've been to the rodeo before, with endometrial cancer, 16 years ago.

I feel fairly calm about it - or maybe that's the diazepam - and at 75 you don't expect a vast futurityin any case.
  • My heart does go out to you, @Firenze because that sounds very similar to my mother's circumstances at the time of diagnosis. Also to Mr F.

I am sorry to read this @Firenze and hope there is a good way forward with treatment. Thinking of you and Mr F.
  • (( @Firenze )) Hope there is a realistic offer of treatment.
  • Fucking cancer! Thoughts are with you and Mr F.
  • ((Firenze))
  • Praying!

The consultant's attitude seemed to be that it was all run-of-the-mill and entirely treatable. I chose to believe her.

Mr F now has a couple of new teeth, which he is going to try and not break on anything.

So an evening of omelette. And gin.

Fuck cancer. Sending love to you and Mr F.
  • Love to you, @Firenze and to Mr F.

Sorry to hear that Firenze - I hope the consultant is right and that it's all treatable.
  • Good luck and all the best, @Firenze .

The gin sounds a good idea!

I second the gin being a good idea @Firenze. The consultant sounds good too.
  • Praying for all your best outcomes.

  • prayers today for A, wife of our dear priest M, whose son is having a cancerous kidney removed today. May it go well and that the cancer hasn't spread.

  • Empathy heading your way, Firenze.
Mrs Vole's oncologist has been brilliant so far and she is now on a (very expensive!) cancer growth inhibitor tablet and the usual aromatase inhibitor for the inoperable metastasis and all going well so far!

Treatment path now laid out. I have a Pill to take daily. An 'enhanced' mammogram (in colour!) on the 16th. Then a meeting with the consultant on the 31st, leading presumably to a surgery date. So, by NHS standards, things going at a fair lick.
  • Sounds encouraging, Firenze. Speed can be the key to this thing, and it sounds as if they aren't messing around.

A friend of our has just done the same thing and had the surgery two days ago, but she had a question: Why is it that the word 'cancer' takes the masculine gender in many languages?
  • SarasaSarasa All Saints Host
Glad that you have a plan @Firenze. I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible. Prayers that it will.
  • FirenzeFirenze Shipmate, Host Emeritus
Not totally smooth, since my consultant wasn't available, so I had to be slotted into another doctor's schedule, which meant not 11.20, but 12.30. Nothing like an extra 70 minutes suspense. And then a CT scan.

So, results of that on the 15th, op on the 27th.
  • SarasaSarasa All Saints Host
Annoying about the wait, but good you've got a schedule @Firenze.
  • Thinking of you @Firenze . x
Mrs Vole had to stop her Ribo treatment for a while due to low lymphocytes -now picked up thankfully but now something has shown up on her ECG and she's got to have a heart scan! Appointments are exhausting...
  • FirenzeFirenze Shipmate, Host Emeritus
Having managed to fret since NYD about the non-appearance of electronic notifications of upcoming stages of treatment, they've all pinged in.

So now I'll have to displace my anxiety on to something else.
  • Happy that there is one less thing to fret about. May peace be yours as you move forward.

Some good news, I just had my every six months checkup with my surgeon, everything looks good. She sent me for my yearly mammogram and sonogram in April, and my every two year bone density scan. Then I see her again in July.
  • excellent!
  • Happy report.
  • Joy!!!
    Amen
