"Hi everyone" from an ex-Christian and now agnostic, who's been lurking here in these CoVid times. To flatter you all I've found here an irresistible combination of theology, morality, philosophy, politics and yea, even a sprinkling of religion. Plus dashings of good humour.
My own background was years (felt like aeons in retrospect) in a biblical/conservative evangelical church, then more liberal places - I used do things like to go on the Alpha Course at HTB for fun, because my old church didn't like it. These days I admit I still have an academic interest in the various denominations and beliefs of the church and theology in general, plus I have bigger interests in wine and CHEESE and rugby and travel and cooking and politics and ...
btw to be open, I'm a transitioning trans female albeit of the slightly non-binary variety - so if you didn't know a trans-identifying person, you do now. Polite PMs are welcome (I'm not an activist with an agenda, toilets are not my biggest concern in life trust me, I simply liked SoF and discussion and general vibe here )
If you haven't already done so, take a look at the 10 Commandments and FAQ pages (links on the home page), and they should tell you all you need to know about what's what, who's who and how the different boards work.
Hello Shipmates, it's Coot. My former profile is not in existence and as I was not banished, I thought it was safe to make another. No-one expressly said I was unwanted, so here I am.
Looking forward to low key hanging out with you. The new profile name is after St Martin de Porres, and is the name I am known by after being received as a novice in the Anglican Dominicans. Best. And heartened to see familiar names.
Welcome back @Br Martin / Coot. When we made the shift to these shiny new decks a couple of years back we were unable to move the membership database, so we all needed new profiles. We also promised a fresh start, so even if there had been indiscretions on the old place they'd all be forgotten here.
There was a period when I was on the Ship (Ye Olde) a lot, and loved it. So much so that I spent far too much time here...! Since then, I've come back to the new Ship a couple of times, but drifted off again while trying to Get On With Stuff.
I don't know if saying "hello again!" today merits another "welcome back" or is just being a nuisance! But anyway, hello again! It's lovely to find the Ship still here, and many of the people from Ye Olden Days still aboard! Hope to stay around this time, and meet some of the newer shipmates too.
Hello there. I'm back - not sure why - but thought that it might be worth getting back into the galley for a while. Don't expect anything wonderful though! The other half sends his regards.
Why thank you - I may have to revise my BBCode, and brush up on a few threads, but hoping to stay a while. It's amazing how much having experience of being part of an online community is helping at the moment. I will say Hi to Trotsky for you.
Good Lord, it's been a while. Hi! I was on the original/previous website from (checks archive of that thread from the old Limbo) July 2001 till whenever I drifted away, with (checks again) 14,068 posts on the old board. Catching up, for those who remember us:
Been back in my home state of Florida since March 2007 (and never moving away again!), been teaching as an adjunct professor (yes, but my old dream of being a professor finally came true) since August of 2009, my partner Cubby and I (like me, he's also named David, and yes, it confuses everyone but us--he's also QuakerCub on the Ship but he's been off as long as I have I think) celebrated our 17th anniversary together this last May, I'm fatter but working on it (around 300 pounds but I have been losing weight slowly), I've become diabetic in the last year (ugh), working on decluttering apartment (just posted in the Decluttering thread), getting back into rereading my C.S. Lewis, as well as rereading The Divine Comedy.
Alas, in the era of Covid, not able to connect very well with my leather community (and suddenly, older Shipmates have a lightbulb go off as they say, "Oh, THAT guy!"), nor safely make it to church (we're both older, quite fat, and diabetic, and Cubby also has COPD and heart issues, so we're pretty much in the "greater risk" category). Eager for that to change. My God, realizing I could have popped back onboard the Ship at the start of Covid... well, here I am now, anyway.
Still a massive comics geek, but also gotten back into toys and collecting them and making up stories about them in a huge way--Microman/Micronauts, Lego, and many more. Money is much tighter than in the past when I lived and worked in Washington, DC (see above, re being an adjunct professor), so I have to be careful. Am also very much into anime but especially tokusatsu (which includes Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Godzilla and other kaiju movies, etc.).
Still love Disney, in theory, but haven't been able to afford to go to the parks since 2009 (and vexed at both price increases and the things Disney's removed from the parks), sadly (indeed, we lost the house we bought in 2007 in 2009, but honestly we're happier in the apartment we have now).
Still dealing with depression and anxiety, so probably expect stuff about that from time to time on the prayer request thread. Working on decluttering apartment and health and such (getting on an eating schedule is vital, what with the diabetes).
Still an Anglo-Catholic (in the sense of sacramental theology, not number of candles on the altar) Episcopalian, with a dash of Shinto. Still a gay leatherman. Pronouns he/him.
Good Lord, Chast. It's good to see you here again. I was thinking of you the other day (in the "what the hell happened to... sense.)
Glad you found your way back
Glad too see you back too, whatever shape you're in - and for most people slow and steady is best for weight loss (which I actually did once - but it found me again). Sorry to hear about the depression - it can be a bugger. There is also a thread called chasing the Black Dog here in All Saints where you can post about that.

As you've been here before, I won't bother with the newbie directions, but just wish you happy sailing with us!.

G&Ts always welcome back!
The wife of the then Prime Minister spoke of having an afternoon G&T on the Britannia. She described it as being typically British, weak and warm.
Welcome aboard, @JuanaCruz!

Huia does a happy dance.
