If you take a minute or two to check out the FAQ and Ten Commandments pages (links on the home-page), they should tell you everything you need to know about what's what and who's who on the boards.
May you enjoy many years of happy sailing with us!
There are threads in the Styx to practice and/or ask questions on stuff like quoting posts in replies or inserting links. And, also technical questions such as changing profile info. Jump in with questions, we're nice and helpful people.
I am a lapsed Roman Catholic, but despite losing the faith many years ago (which, deep down, I really wish I hadn't), I have never really lost my fascination with and affection for the Church and churchy things, nor my interest in matters of religion more generally.
I have from time to time ended up on these forums, especially when looking into Anglo-Catholics and their history, which quite a few here seem to be specialists in.
If you've been lurking (as we call it), you probably know what's what, but the FAQ and 10 Commandments boards should tell you anything you need to know about the boards and how they work.

Well, that is tempting ...
Funnily enough, speaking of RC/Anglican crossovers, I'm reminded of an elderly Frenchman I once spoke to in a French town which, owing to the historically large Anglo expatriate population, had an Anglican parish; he told me, very earnestly: "Sometimes I go to the Anglican church because they still have the preconciliar Mass"!
A welcome from me too @thomas. When I lived in London my husband and I enjoyed going to the local high Anglican Church from time to time despite me being a Roman Catholic and him a Quaker. It had a really good mixture of ritual and social justice, and at the time, a wonderful woman priest.
I hope you enjoy the Anglican sherry but do remember that it is made by RCs.
Haha — while I have a soft spot for high-church Anglicans, for family and cultural reasons I think that if I were to attend church again (and I've a mind to), I wouldn't feel truly at home anywhere but in the RCC.
Give the Anglo Catholics a go: here in Oz I find that they are much nicer than the “ faithful” RCs and even nicer than ( Sydney) Anglicans who are a species unto themselves.
Well done David. It's as true now as it was then, and there's not been much change in alignment also. There have been some instances when what I'd call a traditional low-church parish has moved into the Sydney Anglican school with the appointment of a new rector. Also appointments not supported by parish nominators have seen a change in hue.
A few words of introduction for other shipmates. I chose my username to indicate that I have the stickability of a limpet but also that I hope to reflect little rays of light in dark times. I'm steeped in Methodism but hope my wide horizons may be broadened further by getting on this boat. I'm based in Leeds UK.
Thanks for the welcomes Sarasa and North East Quine. Yes, I read the ten commandments before registering. Looking at the dates of 'recent' posts on here it seems like it's been a bit quiet on the ship lately. I'll have a look around in due course, once I've found my sea-legs.
I was a member here under an old email address but haven't visited for years. Now I've rejoined, under a new name as well but I am Alex Cockell's brother. I think I used to go by the username Psychman27.
Hello!
I've just arrived here from rural SW Scotland, recommended by a twittermate.
I'm a recently widowed gay man who has frequented most denominations over the last 60+ years and usually describe myself as a recovering bigot - in my heart I'm probably more anglican-episcopalian than anything, tho I'm currently part of my local Church of Scotland (presbyterian) parish and really love it... if only they'd celebrate the eucharist once a month or so!?!
I'm a dog-dad to 2 rescues, a keen gardener and thoroughly enjoy walking in the hills and forests and exploring historical places. I'm also somewhat clothing-averse (naturist), but promise not to embarrass anyone!
*waves* I believe 'twas I directed you here. As a fellow pisky worshipping with the Kirk I'm right with you on the frequency of communion, though I have developed a liking for a good metrical psalm. Welcome!
Hello @Arethosemyfeet
We don't do metrical psalms here... shame.
Tho we do have a good balance of traditional and more modern hymns ...but stop short of worship bands!
Second the Hills & Harbours recommendation. Have passed through Galloway many and oft on the way to Stranraer or Cairnryan, and have stayed in Wigtown of the Books - lovely countryside.
Probably at the opposite pole as regards clothes though - I have too many, which doesn't stop me buying/making more.
I’m a Presbyterian on the other side of The Pond, and I completely get your wishing for at least a monthly Eucharist. Monthly is the norm in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but I’m the guy who, like Calvin, thinks it should weekly (and who does what little is in my power to nudge things that way). Since the 1970s, the norm here has moved from quarterly to monthly, so there is hope.

The CofS church I attended for a while in another town had monthly communion services - my current church has had one since I started going last May!?!
As an Anglican, weekly is the usual minimum - I was a member of an Anglo-Catholic congregation where it was a daily event (apart from Mondays which were the priest's day off!). I am hoping our nearest Episcopal church may re-start monthly communion services at Whithorn Priory (just down the road from me) which were suspended during Covid lockdowns.

The PCUSA’s Directory for Worship states:
The Lord’s Supper shall be celebrated as a regular part of the Service for the Lord’s Day, . . . . When local circumstances call for the Lord’s Supper to be celebrated less frequently, the session may approve other schedules for celebration, in no case less than quarterly. If the Lord’s Supper is celebrated less frequently than on each Lord’s Day, public notice is to be given at least one week in advance so that all may prepare to receive the Sacrament.
So weekly is set as the aspirational norm, while quarterly is the bare minimum.

What's so special about Sydney Anglicans, by the way?
Extremely evangelical
Great memory Piglet!

A topic for another thread, perhaps.
As I recall from my days at St Magnus Cathedral, we had Communion about once a month, but that was a long time ago (I left in 1988).
I think that's worthy of the Quotes file! 🙂
