Such apredictable end, yet so gut-wrenching. His bravery was mind-blowing. My heart goes out to his widow and all who loved and/or were inspired by him.
Bob Moore, founder of Bob's Red Mill, which became a major supplier of gluten-free products before they were well known.
Firmly committed to "people before profits", in celebration of his 81st birthday he gave the company to the employees, assuring it wouldn't be bought out by competing interests who might not uphold the standards he believed in. When describing their gluten-free offerings (which are processed in a separate room, and tested multiple times for any trace of gluten), he commented, "We don't sell them. We offer them."

A truly remarkable, gentle man.
There's growing interest out here in ancient grains and Bob's Red Mill freekeh, sorghum, millet, spelt, wheat berries, teff and farro are available at good healthfood stores. The tributes to Bob Moore's vision and integrity are moving.
I will forever be grateful for his unbelievably irritating character with his grating loud voice being instrumental in weaning my mother off of Coronation Street

Non-Corronation street story John Savident used to tell:
He was stocking up on some Christmas booze one year at a posh off license in the West End. Ahead of him at the counter there’s a woman placing an order. John S thinks, ‘oh damn - I’m sure I’ve worked with her in something, but for the life of me I can’t remember what, or even her name.’ So he tries to strike up a conversation - ‘Oh hello, my darling, lovely to see you again!’ - bit of actors’ chat.
She’s polite but a bit icy. ‘How’s work? Doing panto this year?’ he asks. ‘No’, she replies, with a bit of a stare.
She heads off. John Savident thinks, oh, bit toffee-nosed her, wish I could remember her name and what we were in together, I know that face so well …
A moment later the penny drops.

He was a wonderful character.
No doubt, but I think @KarlLB was referring specifically to his Fred Elliott character in Coronation Street, which character one either hated or loved!

Fred Elliott was also a wonderful character fully of humour and pathos.
Not everyone would agree with *wonderful*, but Mr Savident really played the character well. How much of that was due to the writers, and how much was due to Mr Savident?

As an elderly hairy bikers who likes to cook I found myself deeply affected by the news and by his friend Si Kings announcement. I was driving when I heard it and had to pull over because I found myself unaccountably unable to see clearly.
RIP Dave. One of the good guys.

A pantomime Princess Margaret? Who’d have thought? Pow! Right in the toast!*
*Monty Python reference, as seeing that he asked the real Princess Margaret if she’d been doing panto reminded me instantly of the pantomime Princess Margaret engaged in a life or death struggle with her breakfast, as she shoots a silver tray creeping along with a harpoon gun…
Former Senator and vice presidential candidate Joe Lieberman has died. Given that his most recent project has been to try to organize a third party presidential bid (by someone else, not him) which would likely do nothing but help elect Donald Trump, his timing is exquisite.
Joe Flaherty has died. I believe he's the third member of the original SCTV cast to pass on, after John Candy in 1994 and Harold Ramis in 2014.
I'll never forget Guy Caballero, the station manager of SCTV, delivering his on-air apology for commiting financial fraud...
"My friends, what I did was white-collar crime. It's no big deal. Uhh, numbers get entered into the wrong column, papers get shuffled around on the desk, things like that. Even the police don't care about white collar crime."
He ended with "And I hope you'll find the ability to forgive me, as I have forgiven myself." Cut to the news anchor Earl Camembert in tears at the pathos of it all.

He was excellent as Peter Gwilliam in the Tinker Taylor series and in many other things.
Made about 100 appearances but most people would recognise him as the chap who found a valuable watch in Omly Fools and Horses.
Yes, he played Raquel's father, though his was a familiar face in many other TV series, as you say.
His style of DJing tended to annoy me, but it's still an unhappy surprise.
Another part of my youth gone. RIP Mr Wright.
An almost unbelievably brave man.

Larger than life, in more ways than one!
A bit of both I reckon
Yes, I think you're probably right.
Si King is still very much alive, and it looks as though their latest (last) series is currently being broadcast.

Indeed. Dave was a lovely chap.
