Oh NEQ, I'm so sorry. Even though I'm not a Cat Person™, having been the temporary servant of Tabby, the cat who owns a couple of friends, I can totally get why one's fluffy friends are, well, friends.
Last night Aroha used the new litter in her box. For some reason she had refused to use it for a while despite me changing it even when it didn't look used, so I thought I'd try an alternative.
Glad to hear the change was worthwhile Huia! Nothing worse than shelling out for the more expensive option, which is also rejected! I hope Aroha continues to be happy with the new product.
Cats are working in tandem here to be a nuisance. One only eats biscuits, so had to get more in as we'd paused our regular order. The other one in theory only eats wet food, but I am finding that he too is eating the biscuits and I am tossing away about half a single serve tin each day. I suspect he is eating quite a few biscuits, which is why the cat for whom the biscuits are bought, is constantly complaining and asking for new ones. I'm kind of in the routine and it's ok but the constant begging does get to be a bit of a pain.
Have had to discontinue the new litter due to Aroha eating it. I couldn't work out why the were shallow dips in the surface of the litter, then I saw her crunching it.
She's an absolute cuddle bug, but not the brightest cat I've ever had.
Furry friends have been very cuddly of late as winter really kicks off. We have two lovely veloury throws on our lounge. For whatever reason each cat has claimed the orange throw. The olive green throw is acceptable, but orange appears to be the way to go.
Both cats are loving that they can sit in the dining room and soak up the afternoon sun, but are not keen to share the space. At present the compromise appears to be that one takes the floor and the other lies on top of the dining table. Of course today, the routine appears to have changed with fights occurring because they both decided that under the dining table was the place to be. Honestly! I just can't keep up.
We have a large crow family living in a big tree across from our house. Molly was taking her evening stroll with me when she chanced upon a chicken bone at the base of the tree. No doubt a crow drop.
She grabbed it before I could stop her. The battle was on. I pried her mouth open and pulled the bone away from her. The next day repeat. I did not throw it far enough away and she went for it again. Today she walked by looked up where the bone was, now out of her reach, and she did not pull on her lead. She looked at me, put her head down and kept on walking. Good girl.
I hope Aroha is OK @Huia, we have one cats that is a regular "sicker", but she seems fine in every other way. She had a lovely roll in the sun this morning and enjoyed lying on the grass for a bit. While she did that, I picked off some dandelion heads in anticipation of husband doing a bit of 'weedkiller/fertiliser combo on the lawn. Managed to get both cats out for a bit, as they'll have to stay inside for the next couple of days. I am imagining quite a few complaints from them!
I had arranged for a workmate of my lawnmowing friend to come and dig out the raised garden today. He rang yesterday to postpone his visit, which was good timing as it's raining and very cold, with snow forecast to 200 metres today.
Unfortunately I need to do some grocery shopping and attend a library meeting today otherwise I wouldn't leave the house,
Aroha is curled up on a chair near the heat pump and Spooky curled up on another near the back door.
Our cats have settled down and settled in and found their favourite spots in our living room. The Calico is next to me lying on the back of the sofa and her brother is in his favourite chair (also beloved of previous cats) across from me. It’s further away though he will occasionally join me on my lap on the sofa so it averages out. Calico is much more comfortable around the humans than she used to be but still not totally into the lap cat concept. She likes to let all four legs hang down the front of the sofa back (so to speak) which makes her look half on the sofa and half clinging to its side.
I love the sight of a cat or preferably cats snoozing in their favourite place. At present ours are keeping Cheery husband company (which was good as I had no moochers trying to get pieces of my salmon at dinner). Both have been very pleased because he has had a week's holiday at home doing jobs and every afternoon when he has a rest they love to snuggle with him. I think they will be most put-out when he returns to work next week.
Somehow, the gate was open. Perhaps the water meter man did not close it firmly, and the wind blew it open. I live two blocks from a busy street. Now and again, Molly will follow me onto my side porch where I have the washing machine, and I will not know she is there, and I will close the door and leave her locked in. When that happens, she has a unique bark, saying, "Let me in." I heard that bark and was puzzled because I had not been on the porch or anywhere in the house with a closed door. I started looking for her and found her sitting by the front door. It was then I discovered the backyard gate was unlocked. I am so thankful she did not run off but came to the front door and barked.
Exciting times. A friend is going on holiday with his son and family tomorrow, but the person who was supposed to be feeding his son's cat had to cancel at short notice. So the cat (Smokey) is being dropped off with us today, for a week. I have not met this cat before, but I'm looking forward to having a cat in the house again.
Our dog is having bladder stone surgery today, and will need to be drugged up till she heals, as she is a mini-Houdini and can get out of anything designed to keep her from biting out her stitches.
I hope your dog makes a quick recovery @Lamb Chopped
Smokey arrived at 1pm and is not a happy cat. I'm hoping she's just unsettled from the car journey here. She is hissing whenever I get within 6 feet of her.
Hissing is normal behaviour for cats in stress. When we met Mochi at the rescue centre she hissed at us and she is the most gentle and affectionate cat imaginable (though very anxious).
Hopefully she will settle down soon.
(Mochi still instinctively hides under the table when anyone comes through the front door, sometimes even us. She must have had some serious trauma in her past life.
But she’s currently purring on my lap)

Sending you and Elizabeth a big, gentle hug. xx
Our Westie is 7 now, and in good health, but I know a time will come…
RIP Elizabeth.
Of course the alternative was more expensive.
