I didn't get the job. Skip to the tl;dr at the bottom, for I am about to vent.
This is a real blow. I'm encouraged to apply to their other vacancies, the only problem being that there aren't any.
I have just been rejected for a post to which I am 100% certain I meet all the essential criteria. This is very discouraging.
I have an interview for a part-time, underpaid job on Friday which would at least keep me on track in a minimal way. I also need to sort some plans out with the research office at my current job so I can apply for grants, in which matter I feel both pessimistic and exploited.
I have been told that I don't yet not have an interview for an ostensibly ideal fixed-term post which wouldn't advance my career per se, but it would improve my chances.
I have been offered some hourly well-paid work, but it's both unstable and demanding of my immediate attention. So I don't know if I will complete even a single hour. And I still have my current job to do. BUT the car just went into the garage AGAIN. Fraidy Cat needs a house call from the vet. And I need new glasses. And and and.
Finally, I submitted the Telemum's financial assessment for her care yesterday. And, I haven't heard back from the neighbour who was trying to help, so we need to find someone else so she doesn't lose her Canadian pension.
TBF, I hate everything right now. I'm telling myself a life story of monumental effort leading, at best, nowhere.
tl;dr I pray for patience in abundance, and I also pray I will have no need for patience because the career unicorn will solve everything within the next five minutes.
OK so the interview for the part-time, underpaid job went well. It is a six-month post which would be very good for me and also comes with promises of career development support. Which I really need, because this is a dangerous corner.
If I got this, and if I got the other job that I still haven't not been invited to interview for, that would be perfect timing and potential for career development along the path it's supposed to have already gone.
And the hourly stuff won't have any work to do until next week, which is a relief. As long as they eventually have work to do.
And fortunately the Telemum needed a doctor today, who signed the pension document while he was here, and I have uploaded it. (She is fine)
I still hate everything today, but not as much. I will collect the car tomorrow. It was only expensive, rather than very expensive. I need wisdom as to whether it's economic to keep it or sell it.

My last day at my salaried position was yesterday. I have now been rejected from every job I've applied for over the last six months, except two. With those, I'm simply waiting to be rejected, and they're being very leisurely about it. Because I have no other prospects I can't help but pin hopes on them. This is very uncomfortable.
I have reason to suspect I may no longer be hireable in either academia or industry. Whichever way I go next, I will most likely have to put in months or years of unpaid labour before I can move an inch. Earning an income becomes a separate question without an answer.
I believe I have received guidance to be patient in suffering. I don't want to be patient and I don't want to suffer, so I'm having a very hard time following this guidance.
So pleased the operation went ahead and Captain Pyjamas is fine. I guess lots of ice cream is on order or has advice changed since I had it done a rather long time ago.

I should thank the Lord for the temp work that was handed to me basically exactly as I asked for it to be: from a phone call out of the blue. I've made a few dollars this week. Ideally there'll be enough to replace my erstwhile salary and benefits, but at the very least to cover my expenses, please…
Was told I'd hear by today if I was being interviewed for a very desirable job. Have heard nothing.
Was told I'd get the outcome of my interview this week. Crickets.
Haven't found anything suitable to apply to today. I am discouraged.
I need to recalibrate my priorities, but I don't know how. I need to find a job with certain minimum pay and conditions in order to support myself into the future, but the prospects of that have seemingly never been lower, or less likely to improve.
Meanwhile, the Telemum keeps urging me to work less - I can't, because I need to find the aforementioned job in order to be able to retire by age 75. She is also about to have to pay 1/3 of her income towards her care, so she's never been less in a position to support us both if it comes to that.

Part of the problem is that I simply don't have time to drive it enough.
I probably need a car in order to find a job, and almost certainly any job I get now won't pay enough for me to afford another car.
