Again, from the BBC news website: 'Europe trips without huge crowds or price tags' Not weird, perhaps, but ambivelent to this erstwhile editor.
On first (and second) reading I read 'trips' as a verb'. Better would be, 'Trips to Europe without ...' Just the addition of a single short word makes it clear.
Metal detectorist 'could have found belongings of Iron Age queen'
I read this as though they had an opportunity to find said belongings but missed out.
Surely, the word 'could' ought to be replaced by the word 'might' if they found something and the question of who it belonged to was yet to be determined with any accuracy; as appears to be the case when reading the article.
An economist quoted in the New York Times this morning advises us of the state of the car industry:“We know that the writing is on the wall in terms of the decline... ...Whether that means complete demise is a different kettle of fish.’’
In an article in the BBC News website about an EasyJet plane diverting to Rome because a passenger’s power pack was charging in the hold, a byline read “Passengers had to stay overnight until the next day”. Well, they would, wouldn’t they.
This on BBC Wales gave me pause: "Coffee pot building defibrillator rejected as 'visually incongruous'". In fact it's perfectly correct.
I had to google the coffee pot building, and I sort of see what they mean, but would a defibrillator be any more incongruous than the Nationwide's signage on a nice old building like that?
The Oban Times reports, with suitable dramatic embellishment, a level crossing incident: Crianlarich near-miss like a "harrowing episode of Thomas the Tank Engine"
From Colin Baker to Ncuti Gatwa, see every 'Doctor Who' actor through the years
Ummmmm, so what about the five Doctors BEFORE Colin Baker?
What really puts this over the top: if you follow the link to the article, it actually does give EVERY Doctor, from William Hartnell on. It is just the "headline" on the link that, for some bizarre reason, decided to start with Colin Baker.
Interesting that the incident didn't merit investigation by the Rail Accident Board.
That certainly looks like a good case for RAIB investigation. I was surprised that Network Rail were not called out by the court for a non-functioning essential safety system. The sight lines are good in both directions, and the train speed would not have been very high, as it had just come off the spur between the West Highland and what had been the C&O line - usually quite slow, though it has been upgraded over the last year or so. Scotrail shows the site very clearly (2:11 sec into the video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG3jojudebs. (Crianlarich is a very familiar spot!)
There has sadly been a bad fire at our favourite gastropub. Thankfully no-one was hurt.
The "Barry and District News" report includes this comment: "Local figures have spoken up about the blaze, commending the pub for its “warm atmosphere” ...".

Golders Green terror attack suspect was living in home for people who leave secure hospital before stabbings
Before stabbings, Golders Green terror attack suspect was living in home for people who leave secure hospital ...
You'd think the Indy might have someone who could have spotted that.
Although it's unlikely I'll ever use them, I'm happy that those who do will no longer have to put up with the squeakage.
I gather that somebody got the Big Box of Adjectives for their birthday...

Gosh, a mass parachute descent, like Arnhem!
Either the pipeline builders are going to work incredibly quickly, or else the talks will drag on for years.
Took me a moment to work out that Mango meant the clothing retailer.
Or was it the news of his son's arrest that caused the death of Mr Mango?
I'm surprised that those two are going to get their hands dirty building the pipeline.
I haven't been aware of all these nets trying to get into the country.
Mate, I read that at my desk in the office - during a lunch break.
My colleagues are now wondering why my laugh turned into a pig snort.
Girl raped by boys spared jail tells BBC judge's decision was like 'rock in my face'
A headline that needs a whole lot of punctuation. I mean a terrible story, but that doesn't justify a headline this bad.
A comma after 'Girl', and another after 'jail', would suffice, and why use the word 'tells' when 'says' would be more suitable?
*sigh*
Bloody AI again, methinks.
Hmm ...
Arizona to test fish in 15 lakes
In reading and math, no doubt.
Well, it is a school of fish, after all....

Here they put them in disused phone boxes.
Angry Ginge tells of shock after fire at mum's home
Turns out it's a self-given monicker and not the headline writer applying a very mean-spirited epithet.
Do not read near a teacup!
Birds masturbate and that's perfectly normal
That's one way of showing it. Here's another possibility.
Presumably pommes frites are off the post-Brexit menu.
Oi! I resemble that!
What a silly comparison to make, and why bother? Just reporting a harrowing near-miss on a level crossing would be enough...
Interesting that the incident didn't merit investigation by the Rail Accident Board.
Perhaps it didn't merit investigation, seeing that no actual collision took place? Though the fact that the phones were out of order is concerning.
Sir Topham Hatt would never allow such things to occur on His Railway.
