My next door neighbour just popped in with a carrot cake for my birthday - she was away yesterday. I will have to take it to the library where I volunteer tomorrow, otherwise I won't fit my clothes anymore.
Thanks everyone. It was a wonderful birthday. I heard from two of my brothers and my nephew, as well as friends., and my next door neighbour baked a carrot cake. My oldest brother has Parkinsons and is in care, so I sent him a card. I miss his cards. He had difficulty expressing himself in words, but he spent time and thought choosing the best cards and I miss his ability to do that now.
Nor by me. I didn't have a phone at that time but someone at the Cathedral where I was a volunteer) allowed me to make a phone call to check on my brother.
(this was after I'd walked out of the Cathedral cafe without paying, because my mind was in New York.)
Today is the 130th anniversary of women's suffrage in Aotearoa/NZ,
I was out in my garden picking white camelias (the symbol chosen by the suffragists) at 7 a.m so I can drop off a bunch at the electorate office of my M.P. The first woman elected to Parliament was elected in my electorate. so the current M.P, also a woman, is following in her footsteps.
Well done. At the last Federal election here, our electorate saw a woman running as an independent come in second with about 20% of the first preferences and well ahead of the Labor candidate. After distribution of preferences, she still came in second and the Liberal candidate's margin was reduced very substantially.
50 years today since amiable spouse & I got together. A lot of water under the bridge and even 1200 km seems like a short distance in this age if technology

Happy anniversary in heaven, my love.
