For today, my Dear Wife has baked what must be my forty eighth chocolate birthday cake. (Forty eighth cake, that is. The birthday total is somewhat higher). The recipe is from the New York Times Cookbook and has been a major factor in a long and contented marriage. I am happy to recommend it.
Prayers Ross. Mum died almost ten years ago and all the family miss her. Most days someone mentions her in one way or another. I can understand your missing him.
I'm going to be posting far too many memorials on this thread this week, beginning with our dear Shipmate and my predecessor as a host in AS, Uncle Pete, who died a year ago today.
I never managed to meet him in RL, but he was an inspiration to many of us here.
I promise this will be my last in memoriam for a wee while: my cousin L, who was also the best friend of my (only slightly) mis-spent youth, died a year ago today aged only 53.
It's safe to say that this week last year wasn't the best of my life.
Thank you, TheOrganist; I made a special trip to the midday services at Southwark Cathedral and St David was well and truly included... and this weekend's floral arrangements (both there and in my house) major on daffodils...
I turned 60 today! Didn't shoot my age on the golf course, but then I didn't expect to. A great day, though. My golfing buddies don't think I even earn honorable mention in the "old" category yet!

(I turned 13 on Friday the 13th many, many years ago!)
Carpe diem* as they say.
*Sieze the day

You share your birthday with my late father, who would have been 94 today.
RIP, R.
Were reminded, trying to not recall, as is our custom, the trial 8 years ago of the assaillant who nearly killed one of our's.
And it was -42°C (-44°F) today. Fitting. Cold day in hellish rememberings. I'm not fond of my cousin just now who reminded us of both.
I never managed to meet him in RL, but he was an inspiration to many of us here.
May he rest in peace.
Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.

We don't feel old enough to have been married for 30 years....
We had our 30th last July, and like Nick, we can't quite believe it.
D. marked the occasion by putting a lot of Welsh or Welsh-inspired music into his lunchtime organ recital.

According to a notice D. saw in a shop, today is also National Pig Day, and it would be most remiss of me not to point it out.
Happy birthday, sharkshooter!
May Loth's dad rest in peace and rise in glory.
