Well, we are back. We didn't meet up at all, I'm afraid. Only after travelling down (not a small thing for me still in recovery from cardiac surgery) only to find our daughter was ill with what sounds like norovirus. Her husband went down with similar symptoms on Sunday.
We did stay with some lovely people, but all very disappointing.
This scenario has happened before ..... now home exhausted, tired and puzzled. Lord have mercy.

This has been a shattering week in South Africa with the sudden shut-down of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and PEPFAR (the US President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief). The suffering of those HIV+, Aids and tuberculosis patients dependent on remote rural clinics for retrovirals and other life-saving medications is unimaginable. Please keep South Africa's poor in your prayers at this time. I am glad my partner Ula is not alive to see this, she worked so hard in rural clinics.

So, besides pneumonia as usual and heart issues, I have the RSV virus. It has made me horribly sick and the doctors said it is threatening to my conditions. Both myself and Azra were very sick. I am admitted into Shands in Gainesville getting excellent care. I have surgery on Monday. And on IV meds plus more testing. They plan to start me on biogenetic meds for several things and have a full team working on me. It’s Bern a rough night and day and I am fighting… Thank you for the continued Love, support, and Prayers!

Renee update: Yesterday she said "They are busy working on me. I am fighting," and today she commented, "Thank you everyone. So many have shown so much Love and kind words, encouragement . I am blessed everyday," so that is the latest.

I’m not exactly clear what the surgery is for, but prayers are definitely ascending.

I’m not exactly clear what the surgery is for, but prayers are definitely ascending.
Update from Renee, post surgery: “ Thank you ALL. I am still on a long journey but made it through today. The benefits coming out of this have provided some answers. Plus cleaned some if this out of me. Although, we still do not know where bleeding keeps coming from in lungs. I am now on vancomycin which is used to treat severities and still in Shands Hospital.”
Please pray for a neighbour's baby, M. She is but a year old and not flourishing at all. Medics don't know why, despite tests. Pray for worried parents J and A, brother O (age five) grandparents L and K. And for me (age 77) . Writing this with tears as I have worked in perinatal research.

Pope Francis on Feb. 14 was admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital for testing and treatment of his ongoing bronchitis, which has plagued the 88-year-old pontiff in recent weeks.
The Vatican announced the hospitalization in a brief statement around 11a.m. local time on Friday morning and did not specify the nature of the tests or how long he is anticipated to be treated. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the pope could be admitted for up to 5 days.
I am still a patient at Shands Hospital. The doctors have been very informative, take time to explain things, and answer questions. This will take some time. From my understanding, it is just as important not to underdose me as it is not to overdose me. Plus all the side effects and the fact that I am little and immune comprimised play a factor. Also, I am still sick from this RSV and pneumonia. So I will be here awhile as they treat me, make dose corrections, monitor the side effects. Then I will be on this medicine for a year. Looking forward to going home when i can. I have always been the one holding the light. I am asking everyone to hold up your laterns for me.

My brother T has been in the hospital in ICU for three weeks now with flu and pneumonia. They are finally thinking they can move him out of ICU to a regular room. Please pray.

Please pray for B, my elder daughter's husband's mother and our family, hoping to all get together this half-term holiday. B (now over 90) has just had a (rather severe) stroke. Now being assessed. B is a faithful Catholic, so we have arranged a visit from the hospital chaplain. B lived with her eldest, D, who will need a lot of support now.

My aunt G is about to crumble under the load of several infections, a possible cancer diagnosis, and a very dangerous situation with a stepson. Please pray for her healing and for wisdom to know how to handle the situation. She can't do the cancer test until the other three/four infections are cleared up...
