Tomorrow, my friend Florence turns 100 years old!! Her daughter has prepared a party for her in the facility where Florence lives. We will have food, cake, sparkles and fun; all things that are among Florence's favorite things!
    This is very exciting!!

    Wow - happy birthday, Florence!

In the UK when you turn 100, you get a telegram from the Queen; Florence won't have to get a tweet from the Chief Twit, will she?

Oh, I think there's a possibility of a note from the White House. She would have loved one from President Obama (or President Clinton!!!)
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
One from Mr. Obama would really have meant something - such a gentleman.
  • Happy Birthday to Florence and may she have a wonderful party.

Thank you for your kind birthday messages! I'll share them with Florence tomorrow! She'll be very excited to know that she has greetings from various parts of the world!! She was quite the traveler in her day and has told me about her trips to Great Britain and Australia and so many other places. Happy memories for her!

Thank you for the information, ladies!

I told Florence that she would find a card with greetings from all of you, from all over the world! She was thrilled, and told me that she had traveled to most of those places (which of course, I already knew!!!) and it made her so very happy to remember those favorite times of her long life!

    ... or CHAMPAGNE, perhaps?
  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host
This was a mostly Methodist tea total group! Florence is the daughter of a Methodist pastor and was married and widowed to two Methodist pastors! I don't think champagne ever touched her lips!!

So, unfortunately, I can't use that as an excuse! ;)

A personal friend and major Kenyan writer, Binyavanga Wainaina, has died at the age of 48 (he suffered a stroke in 2015). Devastated.

My wedding anniversary! 20 interesting years. The downside is we are not in the same location this week, as himself is at home, and I am in Edinburgh.

    Congratulations, Cathscats!

That's a special milestone, Cathscats! I hope you two get to celebrate when you are in the same place!

@MaryLouise - so sorry to hear of your loss - 48 is way too young. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations, Cathscats and Mr. Cathscats! A couple of friends of ours in Newfoundland posted on FB today that it's their 20th anniversary, so you've obviously picked a good day.

Today is my birthday. Several plans fell through, but my nephew sent his present 2 weeks early* so I opened it this morning.

His explanation - "Because it give NZ Post time to find it again if they lose it."

    Thanks everyone.

My brother in Chicago is amazing, he always seems to manage to get a present to arrive on the exact day. I now have a large towel shaped like a cat's head with a tabby cat's face printed on it. It's microfibre so it will dry quickly, which I appreciate given that it's a challenge getting towels dry in winter.

As always, it's not the presents themselves, but the thoughtfulness behind them, a friend bought and delivered wood pellets for Aroha's litter boxes. He has a practical turn of mind.
  • D-Day minus 1 and Harry Read and John Hutton, 95 and 94, have just parachuted into Normandy for the second time.

Puts the rows of presidents, premiers and party leaders into perspective.

  • Today would have been our wedding anniversary. I'll work through it by doing some much needed brush/ scrub clearing with a friend.

    ((TheOrganist)) Anniversaries are my worst.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    {{{TheOrganist}}}
  • Thank you both.

I've spent a lot of the day having fun with a large brush-cutter clearing a choked drainage ditch with a friend. Then the usual two-and-a-half hour rehearsal.

Now sitting enjoying a wee drink ...
