Happy 45th Homecoming Anniversary to my parents!
We were all exhausted from moving them into their new (to them) house. Sitting on the lanai, we enjoyed the fireworks the neighbors were shooting off. We figured it was a pretty nice welcome to the neighborhood display.
Today my congregation surprised me with a speech and the gift if a picture to mark my 10th anniversary as their minister. Totally bowled over (though almost feel as though I were leaving, somehow, which I'm not.)
10 years since my mother's death this day. The tree, planted from seed the spring following her death, fittingly is now about 10 feet tall. It's been a rather terrible decade since on the whole since re deaths, major injuries, crimes against loved ones, health problems involving eyes, bones, hearts, cancers.
Sometimes it seems we go through nasty tunnels leading into darkness. It's about the same amount of time these 10 years that I've been thinking of retiring: I'm glad I haven't, it would be the destruction of one of the two remaining threads of continuity of life, the other more important one being marriage and our small family.
I don't beleeeeeve it! Nearly 5pm and no one on the Ship has mentioned today's Feast!.
Altogether now, Hooray and up She rises, early in the morning
I have a perfect excuse: in order to catch our homeward plane, we had to rise up very early in the morning* and didn't get home until well after midnight** Atlantic time today.
I can safely say that the Assumption of the BVM was the last thing on my mind.

Rejoice! Rejoice! August 25 was our fortieth wedding anniversary! Many thanks to our parents for setting good examples and our friends for their help, but mostly many thanks and all my love to S, Mrs Sioni.

Then give three cheers, and one cheer more,
For the hardy Captain of the (Ship of Fools)!

It is 18 years since two 'planes were flown in the world trade centre towers, killing 2,996; AA flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon, killing all on board and 125 in the building; and UA flight 93 ploughed into the ground in Pennsylvania, brought down by the actions of brave passengers aware of the earlier hijackings, killing all 44 on board.

I couldn't help thinking that the author of that piece should have known that in Canada the word favourite has a "u" in it though ...

Excellent news, JJ.
The Glorious Fourth is almost over... and it's... suddenly... quiet! Deo gratias!
