Well, after losing two cousins last year I'm now watching a friend of my sister enter end stage metastatic cancer. It has spread to her bones. She was, and still is, holding out hope for an experiemental program at MD Anderson, but it does not look good. Prayers for AJ.
Thanks all. Just got an email from my sister. She and a few other friends had lunch with AJ. She's off all chemo and is on morphine for pain. Nothing left to do. Her son and daughter are getting her into hospice.
I had my chemo today, again, it's going well and there isn't much else to say. I feel blessed when I compare myself to some of the others on this thread. Thank you all for your prayers.
Today I got a letter from the hospital with a follow-up appointment for the gynaecology procedure I had earlier and, totally separately, a reminder that I have an appointment on Monday for a diagnostic mammogram and scan at another hospital.
I expect both to be OK, but there is still a tiny niggle.
I could do with a little less excitement in my life.
Thanks everyone, one at a time would have been enough, but hopefully by the end of November I will have a clearer idea of what's going on. Meanwhile I'm spending the weekend in the garden.
Praying for all.
For symptoms that can be lived with and are not all consuming.
For treatments that are brutal to cancer and not the person affected.
For results and tests in a timely manner.
For peace in uncertainty.
Update: my meds are no longer stopping the disease from spreading.
The drug company says the average effectiveness of it is 24 months and I have been on it 41 months so that's pretty good.
I feel the characteristic pain of new tumors in my hips, pelvis and upper femurs. My oncologist has one other "targeted chemotherapy" option (if my genome or whtever is suitable). As well as several old-school (drip drip drip) chemotherapy drugs.
I have upgraded my pain meds (I was on OTC Ibuprofen ie nothing very heavy duty) so that is under control too
A bit sad though ...
Had my chemo again today. Rather worryingly they weren't able to draw blood through my port, and had to draw the blood for my blood tests through my hand. But aside from that the chemo went well. Thanks for the prayers.
