Any of you remember Mister Ed?

    Neigh...

  • Wesley JWesley J Circus Host
    Can't de-neigh it.
  • Golden KeyGolden Key Shipmate, Glory
I remember. :) Trivia: Mr. Ed was played by a Hansen's zebra who'd been painted/dyed. Seriously.

From the realm of the blatantly obvious, in the Washington Post:
Accidental gender-reveal explosion kills an expectant father in New York: ‘This shouldn’t have happened’

    It ain't what they expected.

Well, it's one baby too late for a Darwin Award.

Really? He didn't look anything like a zebra, and nothing I could find said that he was.

Snopes is usually spot on, but I've got to say the ears alone seem really different from a horse's. And it would have taken more than body paint; the mane would have to be shaved from its upright brush and a palomino toupee added. Poor zebra!
  • Golden KeyGolden Key Shipmate, Glory
Yeah, it seems weird to me, too. I saw something about it on TV once. Definitely poor zebra.

    This:

The federal government is facing accusations it has failed to do enough to curb right-wing extremism, after a man with a swastika painted on his forehead allegedly attacked an Aboriginal woman with a makeshift flamethrower.

could have been much better expressed.
  • That's what they get for letting Aboriginal women carry flamethrowers.
  • Golden KeyGolden Key Shipmate, Glory
We women of other sorts should find out their supplier. (2/3 kidding.)

Snopes is spot on - but you need to click on the link at the bottom of the page given above which says 'More information about this page'. :)

Brilliant - never saw that section!!!

But can we believe it? It could be disinformation about disinformation!

Turtles. It's all turtles on the negative Y axis.
  • Of course!
  • Not a headline, but from a story published on-line by our local National Public Radio station:
QAnon derives from a mysterious online figure, who alleges that a cabal of Democrats and Hollywood insiders are involved in child sex traffic, Satin worship and cannibalism.
  • I believe that it is true that many Hollywood types are big fans of satin.
  • Golden KeyGolden Key Shipmate, Glory
LOL. "Saturday Night Live" should work the satin angle into a comedy sketch about Q-Anon.
  • Mister Ed wasn't no zebra. Add that to the list of totally-assinine alternate lies. (e.g. Mr. Obama was born on Mars)

Well, thanks for that. I'm glad my common-sense meter was doing its thing. I had no idea that Snopes had an "Onion" section!
  • On BBC Wales news website: "Police stop checks to deter beauty spot visits". This actually means exactly the opposite of what one might thing: they are in fact increasing stop-checks of people as it's such a nice day.
  • Any beauty spot that requires you to write a check in order to visit it, deserves to have police stop the checks. I'll only visit beauty spots that are open to the public free of charge, thank you very much.
  • Yes, but remember that in the UK we write cheques not checks (or we used to, before debit cards came in!)
  • Eh? Ladies with no visible beauty spots are free to go, and promise to purchase a ticket to the Policemen's Ball.
  • Occasional spot checks are a Good Idea, in case the spots are a sign of something more sinister happening beneath the surface ...
  • Wesley JWesley J Circus Host
    That's spot on!

I had a lot of spots when I was young, and none of them were beautiful.

    From the Guardian:
Second world war bomb detonation damages buildings in Exeter

Was there a first bomb I never heard about? 'World War 2 bomb' would have been a better wording.
  • From BBC website: "Qantas says that vaccines will be required to fly". Why? - will flying make them more effective? Can't they just deliver them in a refrigerated lorry?

From BBC website: "Qantas says that vaccines will be required to fly". Why? - will flying make them more effective? Can't they just deliver them in a refrigerated lorry?

Not if the destination is here, which seems likely if it's a job for Qantas.
  • They'll be focusing on pigs next.

One assumes the implication from the natural meaning of the words is that Qantas can't transport them and they'll need to fly there by themselves.

  • Yes, it will be very tiring for them.

Indeed, but Baptist Trainfan referred to delivering them by lorry. Not an easy road journey for the little vaccines.
  • They could hitch-hike?
  • Gee DGee D Shipmate
On a friendly boat or plane?
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    They could hitch-hike?

Isn't that how viruses travel anyway?
They'll be focusing on pigs next.

    AHEM! 🐖

    I've had my first dose!
  • But can you fly?
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    But can you fly?
With a bit of help from Loganair, British Airways, Air Canada et al, yes.
  • One from the No Shit Sherlock Department:

Writing notes to self improves memory
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Actually, that doesn't make sense. If you've written a note, you don't need to rely on your memory, do you?
  • Wesley JWesley J Circus Host
You need to know where you put your note!
  • So ... you write another note to remind you of your first note. Simples!
  • LydaLyda Shipmate
So ... you write another note to remind you of your first note. Simples!

And another note and another note... It's turtles all the way down!
  • Ah ... but at what point do the notes mutate into turtles? We need to know.
  • LydaLyda Shipmate
    It's a Mystery.

This is the direct cause of the "Why is this string around my finger?" custom.
