Excellent news from both Firenze and RR - sending my best wishes to Mr F and Mrs and Miss RR too.

Excellent news about Mr F and the @RockyRoger family!
  • Thank you for good news, above. More news: Mrs Vole's wound drain was taken out yesterday to her great relief.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Glad to hear it, MV - prayers ascending for Mrs. Vole too.
  • Many thanks to all for your encouraging responses! Mrs RR has blood tests and an MRI scan booked. Taking each day a step at a time ....
  • Thanks for sharing good news, and rejoicing for all.
  • Just when, as a family, we thought we were out of the woods .... I had a call from my GP (doctor) yesterday with the results of a recent blood test. I have been diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia). It is, apparently, an 'age thing' and, he reassured me, 'If you are going to have leukemia, this is the one to have, as folk can live for years with it'. Ho hum, so it goes. My own feeling is that my heart condition will probably get me first, so I'm not too bothered, or surprised (I've been very 'under the weather' for some months) and of good cheer. But prayers for Mrs RR, please. I don't think this is what she signed up for!

Eccl chap 7 and blessings to all!
  • Sorry, obviously I'm a bit phased, I meant (of course!) Eccl. chap 9, beginning to read at verse 7. Oh dear oh dear ....
  • Enjoy life with the wife whom you love…. And yes, it is what she signed up for. Sickness and health.
But of course it’s not what she or you or anyone would wish for. Offering prayers.

For @RockyRoger and Mrs RR and yes to what @Cathscats said.
  • Eeee, I'm so sorry. Praying.
  • Prayerful thoughts for you, RR.

Re Mrs V; thanks for your kindness, Shipmates. Bless you all.
The cancer was smaller than expected and axillary lymph nodes were clear -so no radiotherapy needed. Or chemo (as things stand at present). Which is good news -except it meant she could possibly have got away with a lumpectomy rather than mastectomy. (Top tip: mammogram was more accurate than the MRI!). But anyway she is relieved the cancer is gone. Just hoping to get full shoulder movement back, in time. (something called 'cording' is a common complication).
  • Many thanks to all for your blessings and prayers. We have our lovely Pilgrims' meeting tomorrow. I pray we will be refreshed, and then ready for the next step of our journey.
Love and prayers for all on this thread!
  • Prayers continue for you all. So sorry Rocky Road may your energy return. Thanks for the update Merry Vole, on Mrs.V, that we may rejoice with your good news indeed.

Many thanks to all for all the the candles lit and prayers said. It means a lot to us, and Mrs RR and I have peace. I was actually (at last!) examined physically by a Doctor . He prodded and poked in all my familiar places and could find no swellings or abnormalities in the lymph nodes, spleen or (he made sure, after putting on blue gloves) groin. He said CLL is very difficult to diagnose with one blood test, and since I have no classic CLL symptoms (yet)I shouldn't be too worried. He didn't know the statistics for 'false positives' for this disease. Next blood test until after Christmas. Damn, now I'll have to buy presents for loved ones.
But it was somehow much more reassuring to talk to someone face to face rather than remotely and be told, with a smile, not to start downsizing my library.
Ho hum, panic over ... bottom line: "the chronic heart valve condition or brain injury will probably get you first".
Prayers for all on this thread XX.

Best wishes to all mentioned on this thread.
Dad had another bit cut out of his arm about 6 weeks ago. The appointment to let him know what it turned out to be was at the start of this week (histology here has something of a backlog). It was melanoma, but all appears to be OK. So, we continue to enjoy life as it happens, and hope.

Hospitals here are madly making appointments for all kinds of screening tests which were missed due to COVID. This month I have a mammogram, a colposcopy and a bowel cancer check. I also have an appointment with a diabetes nurse, a routine doctor's appointment and had a tooth removed yesterday.

To be honest, I'm a bit overwhelmed by it all, but grateful that, at this stage, everything apart from the GP visit (which costs $20) is free.

    Getting older isn't for sissies.

Not just that, but you can barely get through everything expected of you

  • Mr. Image has a lot of people coming to care for him. I am thankful for this. He also has family visits although he missed out on seeing his grandchildren for Thanksgiving because they both had cold systems, so stayed away. Again I am thankful. My grip is that his Hospice nurse can not give him a flu shot or a Covid booster. Although everyone, including a repair person, wears a mask as does he, I would sure hate for him to make things worse by getting the flu or Covid. As he is now unable to walk and is in bed most of the time there is no way I can get him to our local drugstore for these shots. I am feeling frustrated today.

I'm sorry to read of this @Graven Image . I hope Mr Image stays comfortable and virus-free.
  • @Nenya Thank you. I have put in a note to our local health dept. We will see if I receive a reply.
  • Health dept replied with, "Ask your doctor." Yes did that she said Hospice does not give these shots, as that is what I said in my note to the health dept. Oh well, hope the masks keep him well.

It seems an extraordinary deadlocked situation. I hope Mr Image does keep well.

Reading through and praying for all, which sounds very All Saints, so I'll add the occasional expletive.

This thread has always been a hybrid mix of immensely loving support coupled with the "We hate f***ing cancer" theme.
  • Mr. Image is having a bad day and we have been having great wind and rain storms with flooding all around and roads closed. ( We are high above the river and fine) Thankful we are having a break from the weather today and his Hospice nurse can make it to our house. Perfect timing.
  • My friend G has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is contained, and has not spread. Surgery is planned for 15th March (Beware the Ides of March... :-) )
  • Mr. Image is now having about one mini-seizure a week. He sleeps the rest of the day away and then feels fine. I no longer get alarmed which is a good thing for me.

I had the operation a couple of decades ago. It was very successful in removing all cancerous material, but also painful for some weeks afterwards. Usual side effects also.

My original diagnosis of Chronic Lymphocytic Lymphoma has been confirmed (as far as they can tell) by a second comprehensive blood test. This is no surprise as I feel like sh*t most of the time. So I have been referred to a haematologist at our local hospital. But seeing a specialist could take some time. Oh well.
More encouragingly, Mts RR and I have booked to attend a CLL support conderence in Cambridge next month. Mrs RR remarked kindly, "Pleased you have come out ogfdenial, dear". To which I riposted, in my usual jocular fashion, " Denial? It was worse thsn that, I was in de Euphrates".
Back to reading Cointians, chap 4 ......
    Blessings to all.

Sorry to hear about the blood tests, RR - I hope they can find effective treatment for you.

RR _ Prayers for comfort and sound treatment.
  • Hi Guys,
forgive my mistake, CLl is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia ... I suppose 'Lymphoma' was on my mind as Miss RR has just been told she has a cyst, not a recurrence of Lymphoma. Sorry! But good news about our daughter.
  • Thank you for the share of good news about your daughter, and prayers for your own issues of health.

RR _ Prayers for comfort and sound treatment.
  • Bless all of you for your prayers. The haematologist advises no action or treatment at the moment. This is good news in context of CLL and means 'no change' .... CLL is, apparently a chronic condition one can live with for years and not die from.
So .... 'bottom line' .... 'keep buggering on'.
Mrs RR is relieved and looking forward to the CLL conference next month.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Glad to hear it, RR - keep battling on!
  • It's been quiet here lately. How is everyone?
